1. I wouldn't demonize him, but I think it's reasonable to be upset about it.
He did insult his core constituency, myself included. Not very smart.

3. He was on the Daily Show last week
I was not very impressed with him. Not sure if he was trying to be funny, but he seemed like a donk.

7. I don't know
I think he might be worse then Fred Hitler - my Green Grocer, but Adolf Hitler? Well that might be a stretch.

5. I don't know what you are refering too- but at least he voted Roberts down
more guts than most of the dems!

(he used to be my senator when I lived in NY- I met him once- very nice guy, very tall)

12. Oh please
I voted for him. I support him in doing whatever he has to do for
us to retake the surface of the planet.

Let's get back to catching more republican corruption criminals and
lay off democrats who are dodging media-bullets specificially designed
to divide our coalition.

That was my point. It seems a few people here have condemned him based on a press conference in which he mentioned "extremists" on both sides being bad, and from there, well, let's just say paranoia kicked in and they concluded, "God, he is talking about ME!"

14. He layed down a gauntlet of sorts. Don't you think we all should
have a debate on things like world trade before the next election?

I mean if some Dems want high tariffs to protect jobs then China, Russian, Japan, Europe, Brazil & India will all trade with each other and cut out the U.S.A.

Then, all those billions of middle class people to come, 3 Billion of them, will not be buying American goods.

We have been whining for weeks that Dems open their mouths. Well - one opened his.

16. He said he was against extremists
on both sides of the isle.

This is standard political rhetoric. If he had simply mentioned the 'extreme right', you'd hear the media saying, "yeah he only listens to the extreme left".

This way he adds cover and premempts any accusations of him being beholden to 'special interests on the left'. Schumer isn't perfect but he has done a good job with judicial nominees. I trust him to do the right thing on this. I think people insulted by this are being overly sensitive.

18. So true
Political positioning drives people insane around here. Is it really worth it to get that upset over such a hollow statement?

19. I judge politicians by their voting records
not meaningless public statements. Politicians say all sorts of shit. That's part of their job. Schumer has done well on this issue. I'm going to give him some slack. Now if a different senator had made this comment (perhaps one with a record of voting with repukes on many issues), I might have a different take on this.

21. Absolutely
There are definitely DINOs out there - many who feel they have to be in order to be elected in the South. I would be MUCH harder on those Democrats in name only.

22. wow...from some of the replies...
on both threads it appears Sen. Schumer has a very valid point. The loony left and the wacky right. Or the 'I want what I want when I want it crowd'..and nothing less will do.

26. i like what Thoreau said...
the fault-finders find fault even in paradise...while i think there is criticism enough to go around and around, in the end it gets you nowhere. Its a very difficult thing to remember that we are all perfect human beings with all our imperfections.
