The Republicans have the majority on the Senate. And there are always a few Democratic Senators who would join them.
They can vote for any candidate that they want and they can kill a filibuster.
So... I do not see the end of the world with Roberts. He replaces Rehnquist and as conservative as he was.
We don't know anything about Miers which means she cannot be any worse than other women's name mentioned like Edith Jones or the other barracudas.
So, let's ask her about her philosophy, let's conduct a full hearing, but let's accept her as the lesser of two evils.
We fully expected Clinton to appoint liberal judges and he did. We also had the pleasant surprise of Souter. And we should expect Bush to nominate conservative judges. So far, he did not come with rabid ones, even though he could have.
So let's concentrate on the real battles - spreading the word of what we stand for, recruiting candidates that can carry the message and let's take back Congress in 2006.
There may be two more opening in the Supreme Court before this decade is over.
