New word today: Schumeresque - Marginalizing "so called" extreme left
special interest groups as insignificant, overrated, and overstated; although relying on that same group to support you during election periods.

1. What exactly does it take to be considered "extreme left" nowadays?
I mean seriously.

I'm old enough to have seen the Democratic party move so far to the right that I need someone to give me a Power Point presentation.

Is a national single-payer health plan considered extreme left?
Does support for strong unions indicate extreme left?
Are people who don't mind if gays marry/civ union way left?

To me, those things aren't "extreme" at all.

3. I think the "extreme left" should show them just how extreme they are
and donate their $$$$$$$$ to a TRULY EXTREME LEFT PARTY. The Democratic Party ain't IT. The Democratic Party is playing the Progressives....like a fine violin. It's time to break the fucking strings. :grr:

6. But there's no other game in town.
Which is what's so troubling.

Why have we allowed the two (read one) party system to marginalize the Socialist Party?

It's so depressing to me to think that supporting national healthcare, strong worker unions, and individual privacy rights (abortion/gay marriage) is somehow "extreme."

I was born too late.
