A FUNNY THING. Here in Ft. Worth, every third woman over the age of 40 is a Karen Hughes doppelganger. It's kind of creepy. Reminds me of the mother of Jason in the very first Friday 13th movie - I keep expecting her to whip out a machete and start decapitating the good guys.

1. "WHO HAS NO WRITTEN RECORD OF THEIR BELIEFS (AND IF THEY DO, HOW MUCH OF THE RECORD CAN WE GET AWAY WITH WITHHOLDING)"

2. His second criteria was "UNDYING DEVOTION TO ME". He may need someone on his side down the road to keep him out of jail or decide an election.

Roberts satisfied #1 and probably #2 as well. (Long family history of pushing him forward, which would probably keep him on board).

The problem with Miers is that she just looks SO cronyish, it is
unbelievable that he would do that, given the criticism of late. The funny thing is that it is the Repigs using the "crony" card.

Putting all politics aside, when I think of the Supreme Court (at least the way it used to be), I think of gravitas. Of learned legal scholars. That she is not ! Don't you think that the others would probably just laugh at her? I can't imagine her swaying a majority opinion. On the other hand, she may be an easy pawn to recruit.
