What a MEANINGLESS press conference!
It's all a rerun. And Bush doesn't seem to be able to feign any enthusiasm for any of his "announcements" either.

Yes, the Delay story is good, but I keep checking here and on the news for an announcement. It is akin to waiting for a letter of acceptance from college or a job offer.

10. I don't recall ever hearing enthusiasm from him in any speech
Come to think of it, I don't remember ever hearing any kind of human emotion at all in any words he has ever said.

All he does is stand up and read, horribly.

And you get the sense, when Bush speaks, that he is a 12 year old who is giving a book report for something he didn't read, and he just wants to hurry through it so it will be over with and he can go back to his seat.

Second question
Did you shy away from a fight? Isn't this more cronyism?

Blah, blah, blah. Qualified. I'm upbeat. I picked the best person I could find. Nothing about cronyism.

Somebody re-asked about cronyism, I think. So he's going to go on again about strength of character, blah, blah. "Shares my philosophy." Will anyone ask him what that philosophy is?

Military says the Iraqis have one battle-ready battalion; Bush says there are 30 battle-ready battalions, and 80 military battalions all told. Avoiding the question. Is the military right about one battle-ready battalion, or are you right when you say there are 30?

45. Dispenses with military disagreement. Terry Moran?
Moran asking for specific cuts and revenue measures.

"We are at war. We'll make sure they have what it takes to succeed."

Getting stuck on the words discretionary and non-discretionary. Lying his ass off about how he's cut spending. "Substantial offsets," but no specifics. Throwing out the numbers: $187 billion, $20 billion, no clue that he understands the numbers at all.

Now going to Social Security and Medicare. Grinning and stammering.

63. April?
Cites the Bible for taking care of the least. What is the Bush administration doing about that?

Bush yammers about "bridging divides" and "small business" and "ownership." No explanation for how someone without a job, without hope, without money can "own" anything.

On to education, but I'm going to guess he's not going to talk about funding. Yep, NCLB, but nothing about its failures. "We're measuring." Faith-based. Hope. Mentoring. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

No wonder blacks aren't exactly flocking to the Bush banner.

But he "understands" the problem. Heh, heh, heh.

71. George Bush is an imbecile
He always has been - this is nothing new.

And now he's on adderall (the rainbow sherbert of time-release meth) to give him at least a tiny bit of focus in the morning and it's making his blood pressure a little trippy which he's compensating for with a self-induced "flat" effect, and back to incomprehensible in the afternoon.

Throughout history puppets have been favored over strong leaders precisely because they are so easily manipulated into giving away the treasury to their "cronies" (handlers), and then losing their heads when people figure things out. This is nothing new - we've seen this video before, we know how it ends.

And fifteen or so years from now when he does finally get around to croaking, we'll have another Ronald Reagan national paroxysm of crocodile tears, endless memorializing, and he will enter history in the good company of all the other corrupt incompetent Republican presidents who preceded him.

Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 10:06 AM by merbex
the story would be:

Was the President drunk,on something, slurring his words?

He is making no sense except in short bursts. The majority of this press conference is a rambling stream of consciousness disaster

85. How much political capital do you have left?
"Heh, heh, heh. Plenty."

Hey, we're apparently still at war. "We're gonna win in Iraq." Energy. The storm. Refineries. Bubble in the system (ding! Today's phrase that pays). Bubble moving through the system. Wise about how we use energy. We got tight energy supplies. Increase supply. Build refineries.

Oddly enough, he keeps citing no new refineries but nothing about Big Oil's record profits and how they're plowing all that money into their own pockets instead of refineries. Asshole.

Social Security isn't going away. "I've convinced the American people that social security has a problem." Well, you've fooled some of the people all of the time.

"Yes. I'm very concerned about that. Thank you for your question."

Because he's talking a mile a minute and his jaw is popping back and forth.

Not that he's saying anything substantive, but he is stringing words together better than usual.

I actually think he looks better than I've seen him look in weeks, in terms of energy and skin tone.

Maybe he had a massage or a good night's sleep or something.

Whatever it is, I'm sure the MSM will conclude that he's got his groove back.
