LOL, Roberts' first day on the court, from the WSJ
Roberts set a businesslike pace on his first day as chief justice, giving up the Gilbert and Sullivan-inspired gold stripes Rehnquist favored on his robes.

17. Oh, leave the kid alone
at least they adopted kids, which is not what one can say about other "family value" people like Pat Buchanan and Rush L.

Oh, forgot, they are against abortion for whites; it is OK for blacks since they, and their followers, are not interested in adopting kids that are already here, unless they are healthy and white.

7. That's not ermine - that's cat
Blackadder: "Mrs. Miggs this is finest ermine with gold medal accessories"
Mrs. Miggs: "No that's cat - see they left the collars"
Blackadder (reads tag on collar) "Mr. Frisky if found please return to Lady Hamilton"

I don't remember it exactly but that's close I think. Every time I hear the word ermine it reminds me of that.

4. Giving up the gold stripes...
In favor of future robe enhancements that include "fabulous" ruby-red sequins and powdered wigs?

9. Actually, that is a good thing that he did, IMO
Those stripes, which looked like Navy Service Dress Blue gold braid (tailors purchase it in great large rolls) made me wonder if the ole anti-Semite Rhenquist was suffering from dementia, frankly. It has not been our history to "costume" our judges beyond the plain black robe to distinguish them from the other clowns in the courtroom.

The rest of his agenda, who knows? But I agree with his wardrobe choice.

15. I must give Roberts his due for that.
:applause:

Rehnquist's costume was merely a statement of his own sense of superiority over the associates. Undeservedly elitist.
