John Edwards cares about voting! Read his statements
http://www.oneamericacommittee.com/

Dean and Edwards were the only dems to even mention Diebold and ES&S last year, nice to see that Edwards is bringing it up again.

I REPEAT, UNTIL DEMS ADDRESS DIEBOLD AND ES&S NOTHING THAT THEY SAY MATTERS!

I really thought last year that Kerry won by everything that was being said and done and then suddenly out of nowhere, the totals changed.

1 person 1 vote 1 piece of paper

11. 1 Person, 1 Vote, 1 Piece of Paper - really like that. We need
to email our own reps and senators that this is foremost on our minds and we demand they do something about the voting machines before one more elections is held. I'm doing mine now.

12. Edwards probably saw this

Kerry up 2 among men, up 6 among women.

At 1:41am they changed the results to favor Bush:

Now Kerry is suddenly down 5 among men, tied among women,

The media is trying to steal this for Bush.

13. OK, but it falls short
it only says that the software should go through testing. he doesn't say there should be open source code. he doesn't say there should be manual audits. he doesn't question the use of private companies counting our votes in secret.

23. just wondering, where?
I've never heard of him questioning the results, pointing the finger at Diebold, demanding random audits, or suggest measures that would actually prevent fraud.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon. we need paper. we need audits. we need open source code.

it needs to be easy to catch an attempt at fraud and difficult to get away with it. right now, it's the other way around.

15. You are correct but,
but the more people we have criticizing the report the better.

Edwards coupled with Conyers,

"The lack of a fair and open process like that used by the Carter-Ford Commission was evident throughout. In the last commission, civil rights groups submitted research, reports, and testimony. This time around, civil rights groups were essentially barred from the process. The only input from the civil rights community (Barbara Arnwine from the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law) was essentially ignored on this critical issue. It speaks volumes that the public could not participate in a process that would effect their most fundamental right, the right to vote. Moreover, the Commissioners spent only a short time deliberating on these issues."

It can only help,I hope.

It's not enough and I'm sick of the Dems not standing up for ALL the reforms we need. That software should be open-source. No proprietary bull***t. Our vote shouldn't be owned by some private company.

http://www.jregrassroots.org/forums/index.php?s=0a1209cda09c2682d030011625f3ff46&

It's different from the One America Blog, and was created by and for the supporters of JRE's Presidential Campaign in March 2004. Also a wonderful forum for Democrats, a very friendly community!

Edit to add short description from DU's links index:

Community discussing and working on political issues. Inspired by John Edwards and his politics of hope and optimism, JRE Grassroots seeks to help raise the bar on political campaigns and politics in general.

25. We need to hear more of this from more politicians
<snip>
The main problem with these guidelines is that they don't require voting machines to produce a voter-verified paper trail. That means that voters still would be unable to verify something as simple as the fact that their vote was properly cast. To improve on the problems of 2004, voting machines simply must be required to produce a paper trail.

26. Yes, more politicians need to speak out
I personally don't see how we can win if we have a repeat of these Black Boxes. I hear lot about redistricting, where primaries should be held and what state should be first but, nothing on this flippen Black box.

After a phone call to my congressman Ken Calvert(R) he had the nerve to tell me it is a state problem nothing he can do about it.:grr: :banghead:

So what else can we do? I would love to get involved with this.

Peace.

Great thread. I want to PM the OP, but then I got the fricking tombstone avatar! :wtf:

Just what the hell is going on around here? The Mods seem to be off the chain when long-time members -- despite somewhat frantic behavior -- are stoned! Things need to loosen up around here some. Good grief.

Isn't this the same woman who marched under the DU banner and was arrested with Sheehan in D.C.????
