Congress Seeks to Cut Food Aid for Poor
Another proposed republican atrocity...

Congress Seeks to Cut Food Aid for Poor
by Libby Quaid

Under orders to cut agriculture spending by $3 billion, Republicans in Congress propose reducing food programs for the poor by $574 million and conservation programs by $1 billion, The Associated Press has learned.

The proposal by Senate Agriculture Committee chairman Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., also would cut farmers' payments by 2.5 percent across the board.

Under the plan, payments would be reduced by $1.145 billion over five years. But that is considerably less severe than President Bush had proposed. Bush sought a 5 percent reduction in payments, plus a far-reaching plan for capping payments that would slash billions more dollars from subsidies collected by large farm operations.

The AP obtained a summary of the budget-cutting plan, which is scheduled for a Thursday morning vote in Chambliss' committee.

2. Poor people do not live by bread alone
Or by bread at all, if they keep it up.

3. Screw the farmers- they voted for their fate
But cutting food programs for the poor- more genocide of the poor.

12. well, I wouldn't say that--several of them don't think he's Jesus,
for example, and many still have populist roots

5. This is a good move for the BFEE.
Just look at Lil Kim in NK, starving the population in order to keep their will weak. Can't happen here? It's about to.

The pie belongs to them and nobody is getting a piece of it unless they pay the price.

11. So......what this really means
Is that Bushco is literally taking the food out of the mouths of the poor, the infirmed, the elderly, the needy.....to pay for the Iraq war and for the tax cuts.

14. Just as they have been doing since they began their WH occupation.
4+ years of steadily increasing poverty, and according to the UN (and anyone who is still capable of seeing reality), parts of the US are as poor as a Third World Country.

This so-called 'Christian' admin & its maniacal supporters consistently exhibit their anti-Christianity in their continued brutality committed against 'the least of these'... brutality which is in direct opposition to Jesus' teachings.

15. The contradictions in these people's philosophy are unbelievable.

They think everyone should have a job, yet they keep signing all that legislation whose main goal is to send American jobs overseas.

They want women to stay home and raise their kids, but they refuse to raise minimum wage, they actively engage in union busting from the highest office in the country, and they suspended the Living Wage Law because they're afraid those poor carpetbagging building contractors won't make enough money. (Some might consider this last item to be a perfect example of kicking people after they're already down about as low as you can get without being a street person.) And just in case that wasn't enough, they also suspended laws requiring contractors to vouch that they were only hiring Americans and legan immigrants.

They simultaneously demand tax cuts and funding for two wars.

They don't want people to "pull the plug" or "die with dignity", but neither do they want to pay for the health care and medicines which could relieve pain and suffering.

They oppose abortion, yet they refuse to adequately fund our children's health and education; leaving the majority of our children with few options for a future other than the military, who they choose to allow access to our children before they reach the age of majority. In the past, this type of thing would have outraged the republican party.
