AOL Time-Warner Censors Alex Jones Websites
Nationwide blackout a clear attempt to shut down free speech Time Warner's ISP, Road Runner, has blocked access to all of Alex Jones' flagship websites across the entire United States.
We were first alerted to this problem early this morning when several locals in Austin reported that they were unable to access Infowars.com, PrisonPlanet.com or Prison Planet.tv.

Austin Time Warner had previously shut down access to our websites on a whim, claiming they were 'hate material' but in all cases had quickly restored them after receiving complaints.

As of this posting, goping through local Roadrunner I cannot access any of the Alex Jones web sites.

http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/

REGARDLESS IF WE BELIEVE IN THE SITE OR NOT, WE BELIEVE IN THE RIGHT TO POST IT ON THE WEB TO BE VIEWED, THIS IS MADNESS AND NEEDS TO STOP NOW BEFORE WE ARE LIKE CHINA. I LIVE IN HOUSTON ON WARNER AND CANNOT VIEW THE SITE EITHER...

52. NOT AOL! It's COGENT and LEVEL 3 in a pissing match!
Network feud leads to Net blackout
Published: October 5, 2005, 5:00By John Borland
Staff Writer, CNET News.com

Two major Internet backbone companies are feuding, potentially cutting off significant swaths of the Internet for some of each other's customers.

On Wednesday, network company Level 3 Communications cut off its direct "peering" connections to another big network company called Cogent Communications. That technical action means that some customers on each company's network now will find it impossible, or slower, to get to Web sites on the other company's network.

William Steele, a senior network engineer for Syncro Services, said his company noticed the problem Wednesday morning.

So it's a couple of corporate big boys feuding -- and pissing on their customers.

49. This is due to a NETWORK FEUD, not censorship -- see this topic:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4983440

There's a link to a CNET article there.

I posted a reply here about this already, but since it's far down the list of replies, I'm adding another reply here, closer to the original post, in the hope people will see it before they assume this is censorship.

I posted about this in LBN, too, since it's affecting so many people.

Fascists.

Anybody recognize items 6 and 11 of the 14 characteristics of fascism here?

6. A controlled mass media. Under some of the regimes, the mass media were under strict direct control and could be relied upon never to stray from the party line. Other regimes exercised more subtle power to ensure media orthodoxy. Methods included the control of licensing and access to resources, economic pressure, appeals to patriotism, and implied threats. The leaders of the mass media were often politically compatible with the power elite. The result was usually success in keeping the general public unaware of the regimes’ excesses.

11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts. Intellectuals and the inherent freedom of ideas and expression associated with them were anathema to these regimes. Intellectual and academic freedom were considered subversive to national security and the patriotic ideal. Universities were tightly controlled; politically unreliable faculty harassed or eliminated. Unorthodox ideas or expressions of dissent were strongly attacked, silenced, or crushed. To these regimes, art and literature should serve the national interest or they had no right to exist.

Edit: Entire Post.

Looks like they are making changes @ those sites. Recent DNS records indicate changes as recently as an hour ago. These include new name servers and a generic lycos search page when hitting their site (from non-RR accounts). Anyway, not sure this is just an RR thing, looks like they are trying to change host providers or something and are not complete in the move as yet... just a guess.

Has anyone else been successful in seeing the site today ?

and had a runaround with my provider about spyware which is their new excuse for everything. It all works now because I clicked the "detect network settings" link on the page cannot be displayed screen and suddenly everything started working.

They're now speculating that it had something to do with my router but who knows. Anyhow, try that and see if it helps.

Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 12:09 PM by Whoa_Nelly
when I clicked to link to info within the site, AOL immediately shutdown. None f the usual messages of Lost Connection, Do A Restart, Reconnect or Sign Off...just blank with only the AOL tool bar inactivted, and the URL to Jones' site in the browser, but grayed (inavctive). Weird.

So, have brought the http://www.infowars.com/ site back up and am going in to see if this happens again.
