What exactly does "The Battle for Iraq" mean?
On every MSM newscast, there is inevitably an Iraq update within the first few minutes or so, almost every time with a background graphic called "The Battle for Iraq." What does this mean? Is Iraq actually the prize which will go to the winner of this battle? Is Iraq up for grabs? Who are the possible winners of this battle, and what exactly do they get if they win the "Battle for Iraq"?

1. It bugs me. My take is that instead of telling it true ;
The Battle AGAINST Iraq - this is thier cheap spin, like Iraq benefits from it.
:mad:

Iraqis, we're doing all this for YOU! Aren't you thankful?

2. A retreat from Iraq would be a defeat for the US neocons
and the "war on terror" and used in fundamentalistic Islamist circles as a victory with a certain impact on recruitment.

The problem is that will happen sooner of later. The question is, will a "viable Iraq" be left afterwards ? probably not. The most likely is still a civil war. The Islamic fundies will probably ally themselves with the Sunnis, because they hate the Shiites (religiously) above all. This can turn into local wars between pro shiites like Iran and Sunnis like Saudi-Arabia.

Which means that everybody is a loser except Israel. The US neocons will certainly try to put the blame on the Iranians and on Europe for "treason".

But the impact on the oil trade will be enormous. Depending on the future rulers of USA a new intervention could be then again motivated, this time against Iran.

4. It means "war AGAINST Iraq"
They're just trying to cover up the fact that the invasion of Iraq was an unprovoked act of agressive war, the ultimate crime against humanity as defined by the Nuremberg tribunal.
