Who voted against Kerry's energy bill ? What are their names?
We need to advertise liberally by word of mouth, etc. the names of the Senators who voted against this. It is shameful and sad that this didn't pass. I don't see how any Senator can justify this. How do you honestly say you are working for the interests of all your constituents AND VOTE against this?

1. For reference, from Kerrygoddess' site, what his bill entailed
From Kerrygoddess' site:

"As the Bush administration is urging cutbacks on Food Stamps, Medicaid and other aid to poor and low income familes, John Kerry is fighting to keep the heat on on this winter for the poor and low income families. With American’s facing record prices for gas, oil, and propane this winter, the Bush administration has offered a paltry amount of assisstance for those who need it most. What should be obvious to all at this point is, George W. Bush is no friend to the little people; John Kerry is.

WASHINGTON - Today, Senator John Kerry (D - Mass.) offered an amendment to the Department of Defense Appropriations Bill that will deliver $3.1 billion of emergency funding to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The Bush Administration’s budget only requested $2 billion in LIHEAP funding. This amendment will allocate the necessarily $3.1 billion to bring LIHEAP funding to $5.1 billion, the level authorized by the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

This year American families are facing record prices for gas, oil, and propane, and the devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita has made these prices increase. The Department of Energy projects major increases in heating bills this winter heating season. Families in the Midwest could face a 69-77% increase in the price of natural gas and 39-43% increase for propane, families in the South could expect a 17-18% increase for electricity costs and families in the Northeast could face a 29-33% increase in the price of heating oil. These costs pose a crisis to low-income households this winter, and ensuring full funding of LIHEAP is one important step to lessening the burden on these families.

“For some families - especially low income families and seniors - this crisis in heating prices will mean a choice between a heated home or food on the table."

Aw, that's sad. What did the vote come down to?

13. Well, Talent voted for it
At least one of "my" senators was able to scrape together the few molecules of compassion that the wind blew in his face while he was on his way to the Capitol...

Bond is just pure evil.

I'm quite surprised that even one of my puke senators voted for this, to be honest.

3. Republicans, minus the usual "moderates"
like Chafee and Snowe, plus a couple of the noncrazies, like Specter and Lugar. Big surprise -- Santorum voted for the amendment.

3 Dems against. Carper (his partner Biden voted for, I wonder why he didn't), Inouye (Inouye's a hard one to figure out, you never know what he's going to do), and Nelson (the Benator is an idiot).

6. Found his heart
*snort* Yeah, it was uncovered during a pool excavation in his back yard and reburied under the nastertiums this evening, before it could do further damage to his agenda.

5. Inouye is a moron
This and he voted for ANWR (and I think he voted for the bankruptcy bill as well).

And Carper obviously doesn't give a shit about low income people considering he voted for the bankruptcy bill.

As for Nelson, I don't expect anything out of him. He votes more often with pukes than Dems.

Fuckers.

8. you know a few years ago Bush held back Low-Income Energy Assistance...
funds during a very cold winter. The poor, and especially elderly, rely heavily on these funds. Essentially they cannot be given out for any other reason. They are locked up and already put into their fund. See in 2001 a warm winter gave Liheap (as it is called) a 500 million dollar surplus. (which ended up being 300 million because Bush cut funding for the next year) This surplus cannot be used for anything else, as I said. Bush, in January 2003, simply refused to free these funds up. No reason to not do it, it can't be used for anything else and they are there to be used, but he just refused to use them to give poor people relief. Eventually, he freed up 200 million of it, and made a big grand announcement about doing so, as if he found the money for these people and out of great compassion saved them. The problem with that concept is that the Senate (Jack Reed, specifically, with help from Susan Collins) passed an amendment to a bill which increased LIHEAP funds, which as I said Bush had cut, that took the discretionary funds from Bush and forced him to either release the money or wait until next year to spend it. But, he could no longer just deny it to the people who needed it for no reason. Bush then made his announcements about releasing the funds as if he was some kind of big hero, when in reality it took an act of Congress to strip him of his power in this matter, just to get them released. So he released two hundred million of it, then saved 100 million to be spent in the mandatory funding for the next year. And, btw, because of his selfishness in trying to horde these funds, for no reason but pure callousness or maybe just stupidity because lets face it the man is out-of-touch, there were poor and elderly people who actually froze to death because they had no heat.

9. All Kerry was trying to get was the amount that's already been approved
That's what I don't get. What's all the hubbub. Heartless bastards.

I suppose Hawaii boy didn't vote for it because none of his people will be freezing.

11. Kerry won't ever starve, himself. But at least he gets it.

I think the campaign did something to him. I don't think this is an intellectual exersize for him. He gave a shit.

What happens if a bill is deadlocked at 50/50. Does it pass or fail then?

12. at 50/50 the Veep casts his vote to break a tie
And, we all know Dick Cheney has a heart because he's had heart attacks, but that is about the only sign that it exists.

I think Kerry has always been, by and large, a good man, I think he cares. Maybe the campaign did make him realize some things though. Kerry is a good person though, he's not perfect by any means, but I think the man has plenty of compassion. I always have and always will like John Kerry.

14. Kerry certainly seems more active now
He always had a good record, but he seems to be taking more of an initiative.
