Our Prius is Coming! Our Prius is Coming!
Hubby sold his 21mpg gas guzzling G35. We still have my Toyota Highlander SUV (which gets believe it or not, 22-25mpg) for side use. After Monday it will be a secondary car completely.

We will have our Prius! We now carpool, cutting our 120 mile per day commute (80 miles for me, 40 for him) and combining them to make a 58 mile per day commute for us both (I now drive him up through the city, drop him off at his office, and my office is 5 miles past that).

The Prius needs to be here yesterday! For whatever reason, the gas prices in Charlotte are insane! Still, with our new routine we're conserving a lot of gas and soon will be conserving even more money.

I can't wait! It's a Tideland Pearl color, tricked out package 6 with nav system, everything. At $28k it's a bit more expensive than if we'd just bought a standard tricked out sedan, but it's not about saving money so much as it's about choosing to give that extra money to a car company instead of the Bush and Bin Ladin oil terrorist networks.

I'm so excited!

We've even picked out a name... The G35 we sold was named "Yoko" (she had an Asian lilt to her voice). My Highlander is named "Martha" (I got her the day Martha got out of jail). The Prius will be named "Yoda", for he is small, green, and wise...

1. Good for you! Wise indeed! $5 bought 1.8 gallons. Before $3 = 2 gal.
And I had to show one of those grocery store cards to get the 3 cent/gallon discount! What a rip-off!

2. Cool.
We'll buy a hybrid, when the time comes. Thinking about the Ford Escape, which uses the Toyota synergy system.

I love my Honda Civic Hybrid - if I had the money for the Prius I'd probably bought it. Enjoy the high fuel efficiency and enjoy trying to increase your fuel efficiency by driving more fuel efficiently even in your hybrid.

My HCH is named Howie! See you on the Charlotte roads :hi:

4. congrats!
I wish I could afford to switch cars...but I've still got...4 years of payments on my gas-guzzler

The thing is, that I love the SUV (it's a Hyundai Santa Fe) except for the crappy gas mileage.

As a Star Wars fanatic, I love it!!!

My Passat's name is Eva, previous owner sister thought since the NAzi's started VW, she'd name her after Ms. Braun, not so pc.

20. VWs & nazis
The nazis did indeed start WWII, but in the aftermath it was the British Army civil administrators who were as responsible as anybody for the rebirth of VW for which I say good on them.I know this doesn't address the issue of names for automobiles especially PC or unPC names. I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment since I have a tendency to give my work trucks which tend to be old chevy 4 wheel drives feminine teutonic names like gretchen. Just thought I'd ad a fillip of history to the thread re autos in general and some about VWs.(full disclosure-I once owned a Beetle may be the best car I ever owned).

7. Did it really?
Did you have data on that, like gas logs?

I had an 83 Civic CVCC.... It was so weak. I hated it, but it got good gas mileage...

14. data logs
I kept a record of my gas mileage, and updated it with every fill-up. It got gradually better over time, as I guess all cars do. It had a very good horse power to weight ratio, and a manual transmission (better mileage than an automatic). So, pick-up was great and very sporty for an economy car.

Also, it met California emission standards without a catalytic converter.

9. I don't know, but I've got both of you beat!
I've picked up a Bajaj scooter, 100mpg, goes 55-60mph, and is a fun little bike to ride. I've been using it on my daily commute(26 miles one way) and am having a blast. For more information you can go to <http://www.bajajusa.com>

I've kept my truck, for you need one out on the farm. But my little bike is perfect for the daily grind.

23. Woops
Well, the highway figure is comparable (EPA 51 Highway). My figures were real-world, which I think tend to be less than EPA's.

60 MPG around town is great.

11. recently I saw an
article about an engineer in NO California who is "souping up" prius cars to give them much higher mileage- involves extra brick size batteries in trunk. Wish I had a copy of it here.

I wish they had a fuel efficient mini van for the destitute- my work requires a large vehicle- I drive a 97 toyota previa which you would think would be an ideal chassis for hybridizing- I'd like to see a bio deisel/electric hybrid. Gas here is over $3.00/gal and there is no viable transportation alternative even for those who don't have to have a large vehicle. It was in our paper today that the feds are cutting the long plannedrail funding to pay for the hurricane cleanup.

Volkswagon is working on super high mileage cars now- everyone is way ahead of the US. Congrats to you, Dem Agog. May the prius bring you many years of service

18. Links.

The PHEV project is part of calcars:

Unfortunately for those of us with the older (Classic) model this won't be available. But there is a crazy Canadian hacking the Classic in another way:

15. North Carolina is getting screwed
There was a report out of WRAL that NC now has some of the highest gas prices in the nation since Katrina and Rita hit. So yes, gas prices in Charlotte are indeed insane.

I'm thinking about getting one. My Sube wagon is getting a bit long in the tooth.

17. Hopefully, our next car will be a hybrid
Love the Camry, though - it's roomy and comfortable. But it's a tad thirsty on gas. When it comes time to get another car, though, we'll be looking at a Prius.
