Democrats Urged to Abandon Principles - Become the Republican Party

ABC News' Democrats Urged to Abandon Election Myths tells Democrats to give up on their base and talk less about domestic issues and more about national security. The suggestions listed one after the other sound like they came from Bush's campaign speeches.

This has been a problem for the Democrats in 2004 when John Kerry's "political analysts" told him to lean to the center, masking who he really is. This is a major reason why he quickly became labeled as a "flip-flopper." This same image problem has affected many Democrats as they try to go center of left, sometimes giving up on the issues that define what values they hold dear. The Democratic base has tried to give to the Democrats by accepting the DLC as a possible candidate producer, however, as time rolls on, the only ones capable of displaying the values, morals, and vision of the Democratic Party that everyone has been searching in vain for are those who are willing to sacrifice their political centrism and speak out in a loud voice.

Recently we have seen DNC Chair Howard Dean put a new DNC forward. He has already transformed the DNC, although many still do not see it, into a organized political response team. The masterful part of this transformation is the ability to have a choir of Democratic voices shouting slogans such as "Culture of Corruption" and cronyism but he allows each and every Democratic candidate to come up with their own policies to fix the problems that the DNC talks about. In this way, the DNC is becoming a political force without loosing the power of the individuality of the Democratic Party. The RNC, unfortunately for Republicans, has told it's candidates not only how to run their politics, but also what solutions are acceptable from the top down. No individual thought is allowed to go up the chain in the RNC.

So, when ABC News says that "analysts say" what Democrats should do, don't let them do to the Democrats what they did in 2004 by making us give up our values in order to get elected. The elections come with the visions that are truly reflected in the individual leader. The lack of such a strong leader on the Democratic side of the isle comes from these "analysts" who spend all their time looking at polls and not searching their souls.

1. We should list "Our" Values more specifically, and later . . . .
explain how/why each Value is rationally defined/identified as it is.

2. could you expound on what you mean?
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 12:23 PM by jsamuel
I think I get what you are saying. Like the DNC now is listing the values, but doesn't define exacly what the DNC's plans are, because each candidate will have their own values and plans for those values.

6. Examples derived from analysis of the Values listed.
Articulating, in terms of the Value as it is defined, what it is about the Example that makes it a manifestation of a given Value.

Discussing openly how they arrive at their Value statements, in terms of their own and shared processes.

Also, visioning/extrapolation of a given Example on how it might be CHANGED to better manifest a given Value or Values.

8. List our values more specifically?
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 12:54 PM by Laelth
I don't get that. I think we're pretty clear about what our values are. I think most Americans understand what our values are. They are not that difficult to understand. I don't agree with the analysis of these authors, to put it mildly.

3. I have in my hand a pamphlet for the Texas Dem Party
I quote:

We Believe:

In equal opportunity for all citizens
In rewarding honest, hard work with a living wage & in a tax system which is fair.
In family values that are more than a slogan
In quality education that gives all citizens the opportunity to reach their potential.
In freedom from Government interference in our private lives & personal decisions.
That individual strengths in our diverse population are a benefit.
In security in our homes and safety on our streets. Criminals should face swift & certain punishment.
In separation of church and State to preserve the freedom to pursue our beliefs.
In a strong United States-morally, economically & militarily.
In common sense reforms that give us cleaner and safer air and water.

9. what about these so called myths says that the party needs to be less con.
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 02:02 PM by jsamuel
They call the following a MYTH:

"The belief Democrats can win if they just do a great job of mobilizing their base. Republicans have improved at mobilizing their own base, so Democrats need to do more than that."

And suggest we do this:

"Democrats must choose to appeal to a broader majority that includes many moderates, said Galston, a political scientist at the University of Maryland."

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAID TO DO IN 2004 AND IT DIDN'T WORK FOR THE REASONS ABOVE!

7. There is a good analysis contrasting Jon Stewart's "new" ...
..liberalism with the "old" liberalism of the Democratic party hacks in office in Lew Rockwell today. The point of it is that basically Stewart's vision is the true progressive vision (and one Libertarians can get on board with) while the hacks seem to want to emulate Republicans.

Interesting stuff.;
