Winger thinks calling a 60-year-old woman "crony" is impolite
<<I have to say that I'm getting sick of all this talk of "cronyism." Sure Miers is a woman in her sixties, but is it really necessary to use such a harsh label? A little civility here people.>>

Is it impolite to call Michael Brown a crony? Or Julie Myers? Or Joseph Allbaugh? Is it impolite to call Miers a crony because it's true and sounds nasty, or just because this idiot doesn't know the difference between "crony" and "crone?" :eyes:

2. was going to ask if he knew what "crony" meant. by the way, "crone" is an
honourable word, referring to a woman now regarded as one of the wise elders. I wear this title with pride, thank you very much.

4. "Crone" might be impolite. "Crony" is not.
A crone is an old woman.

A crony is a compadre, co-conspirator, hanger-on, sidekick, etc.

Maybe the guy needs to check his Funk & Wagnalls before he posts.

12. A little something regarding crones....
The witches who post here respect crones, you don't want to upset them. A crone is not just an old woman. :)

http://www.croning.org/pages/534083/index.htm

"A woman who calls herself crone is willing to acknowledge her age, wisdom, and power. Through conscious self-definition, she helps to reverse hundreds of years of oppression, degradation, and abuse aimed at old women. Although she may prefer to be called elder, grandmother, or wise woman, she does not dismiss, disavow, or use pejoratively terms such as crone, witch, or hag. The wise woman/crone/grandmother realizes that the true meaning of these terms, and the woman-centered traditions from which they originate, have been obscured and distorted by patriarchal systems.

In ancient times, the crone was revered as an old woman who embodied wisdom and knew the truth of cyclic existence. Crones cared for the dying and were spiritual midwives at the end of life, the link in the cycle of death and rebirth. They were healers, teachers, way-showers, bearers of sacred power, knowers of mysteries, mediators between the world of spirit and the world of form. In prepatriarchal societies, women’s wisdom had healing power, and crone wisdom was the most potent of all. For nearly thirty thousand years, old women were strong, powerful sources of wisdom. Crones were respected and honored in their communities."

13. The Crones are the wise old women
Deep below a Freeper's subconscious and subcutaneous and subneadrethal levels of "consciousness," there LURKS a deep, dark primeval fear of this figure. The Crones know the truth from experience.

In the face of this, the Freeper cringes and trembles in SHAME.

Unmitigated Shame for what they have done. With knowledge. With greed. With malice. With untruth. With fear.

They cringe and wimper in SHAME.

21. Why don't you ask him what he called Hillary Clinton in the 1990s?
I'm sure it was a word worse than 'crony'.

And 'crony' only implies a connection or association, it's nothing to do with age or gender.
