what is "coke jaw"?
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 12:21 PM by npincus
I understand this reference with regard to B*sh's unnnerving lower-jaw-sliding tic that punctuates every other sentence out of his stupid mouth.

But, as a person who (I confess) used coke very occasionally in my younger days, do not have any personal experience with this side effect. Is this jaw-jerking a nervous gesture that cocaine induces? Does it have to do with the body's physiological reaction to the drug? I guess I am asking, other than using the term to disparage the Chimp (which I am all for- disparage away!), is there really such a thing as "coke jaw"?

For my edification. I am really asking.

1. When all the teeth are rotted out
from too much coca cola; using regular coca cola as a mouthwash; using
coca cola as a primary food group, can cause coke jaw.

The Coke Jaw reference is a bout cocaine use, or could be something else entirely.

11. could it be tmj? I know a few people who do that
same thing with their jaw (including me and my dad) and coke use has nothing to do with it.

Just trying to understand.

12. If it is TMJ, then why
has that never been reported in his annual health report? No where has it ever been mentioned, discussed, reported that * has TMJ. And this jawing move he's been exhibiting is a fairly new development. Unless something physically traumatic has happened to * recently, I have my doubts it's TMJ.

http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=5676
Syndrome, TMJ: Disorder of the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) causing pain usually in front of the ear. Pain in the TMJ can be due to trauma (such as a blow to the face), inflammatory or degenerative arthritis, or by the mandible being pushed back towards the ears whenever the patient chews or swallows. Sometimes, muscles around the TMJ used for chewing can go into spasm, causing head and neck pain and difficulty opening the mouth normally.

13. thanks- the coca-cola story is over the top, though I don't doubt
that a substance which can peel paint from cars would efectively rot the teeth after years of drinking.

Well, others here have offered good information.

Hey, I've never hesitated to ask a question, though someone may treat me with scorn!

thanks for the link.

What is Tardive Dyskinesia?

Tardive dyskinesia is a neurological syndrome caused by the long-term use of neuroleptic drugs. Neuroleptic drugs are generally prescribed for psychiatric disorders, as well as for some gastrointestinal and neurological disorders. Tardive dyskinesia is characterized by repetitive, involuntary, purposeless movements. Features of the disorder may include grimacing, tongue protrusion, lip smacking, puckering and pursing, and rapid eye blinking. Rapid movements of the arms, legs, and trunk may also occur. Involuntary movements of the fingers may appear as though the patient is playing an invisible guitar or piano
