Right to lifers protest at my High School today with nasty picts and every
thing.

shouting with a bull horn, 4 gory "aborted" babies pictures and passing out leaflets.

the admin says there was nothing they could do since they were on the sidewalk and not on official school property.

I don't understand that logic...I do but I don't ...cause kids can't stand on the sidewalk and smoke...nor can I and I am 40

suggestions for the morning???

keep in mind, I am a teacher and I do like my job

1. If you were in Florida you could just open up on them with a AK-47
Then afterwards claim that you felt like your personal safety was at issue. With those "pro-life" wackaloons nobody would question your motives.

14. Or pictures of starving children.
Kids without rags for clothes, kids with no decent place to live, kids without proper medicine.

Show them that if they believe life begins inside the womb, it also continues after the womb.

4. Smoking is illegal for anyone under 18, so the employees of the district
At least here in Arizona, have a legal obligation to be heavy handed on it and punish students for smoking on school ground or within eye shot of the school while school is in session.

As for the anti-abortion wackos, as much as I loathe my administration, I have to agree.

Best bet would be, ask them not to use the bullhorn or raise their voices, and if your classroom is disrupted, or you feel your classroom is disrupted by their actions, call the police and have them cited for "actions designed to disrupt the educational environment."

You know, the same crime they charge students with when they wear a "George Bush: International Terrorist" shirt.

5. Rules are rules
You are an employee of the district and are subject to the regulations of being an employee; whether it relates to drinking or smoking on or near school grounds (as an example).

The students are under 18 and so smoking on the sidewalk would be illegal and if they are over 18 they are still subject to school rules as long as they are students.

The protestors are just practicing their right to free speech on a public sidewalk. Why are you against that?

40. Okay. sonny jim.
Next time your children's schooling gets disrupted all day by anti-abortion asswipes, scream that. They are "disrupting the educational environment," a misdermeanor here in Arizona. As far I am I concerned, protesting abortion at a HIGH SCHOOL seems retarded.

12. They could put sprinklers next to the protesters (if there is
ANY grass anywhere near there) and then send the janitor home "sick." So the protesters get wet and maybe decide to go home as well. If they come on campus to complain, the administration can call the coppers.

Sprinklers would not hurt them with the water spray but it might trash their posters.

Just a thought.

They couldn't do that in front of a church that was holding a service. Have your principal call the police and file a noise complaint.

21. Must be a really whitebread school....
... polite kids, etc

At some schools, people who are offending the students could find themselves in a very unpleasant situation.

I taught at a whitebread school, and I just told the kids to call their parents. Cops showed up pretty soon and told the whackjobs they had to move on. The cops said the usual... "creating a traffic hazzard... obstructing a public sidewalk.. mopery.... blah, blah, blah." Lotta lawyers and city movers-and-shakers in the parent group.

The fundies were pissed, but left.

Hell, they got off lucky. Some kids from the Drama club were planning a little performance art piece. Couple of the girls were going to look at the pictures and have hysterical attacks. 9-11 and the cops would be called, along with the local media. The kids figured they could make the fundies look like idiots by showing the effect of their gory pics on "innocent young minds".

I dunno whether it would have worked, but the kids had a good script and great casting.

Then, of course, there was the jocks. Several of them just wanted to kick ass.

Some kids just went out with boomboxes or moved their cars and bombed the fundies with Rap played at 500 decibels.

22. What is up with these people
A John Deere dealership shares a service road with the parking lot of our public high school. One morning, several of the workers of the dealership stood on their side of the road holding up signs as the kids drove into the parking lot. After hearing rumors of pregnant girls at the high school, they took it upon themselves to make signs telling the kids "God wants you to wait". There was nothing school officials could do. The next morning, two senior boys were on the opposite side of the road with their own signs as their classmates drove into the parking lot...."Righty tighty, lefty loosey" "Don't talk with your mouth full" "God wants you to wait to use pi", kinda made a joke of the whole thing.

Telling teenagers what to think or do is not a way of getting your point across. Hopefully some of the kids at the school where you teach will get fed up and react.

31. I told the kids that if they were upset by the pictures they
should have their parents call the superientendent and or the media

the fundies were using babies during their protest and I called child social services...

it was cold this morning and the babies had NO coats on and they were rushing busses with the babies in their arms.

KEEP IN MIND< we have had two gun incidents in the last month

not safe for babies at all in this environment.

we teachers had to deal with the agitated students the rest of the day

38. I love those fanatical protesters....
Since there really is no point in trying to logically reason with them I just like to fuck with them. One entertaining story I have about this:

I was driving around Marquette, MI one day with my DJing partner. I saw them and I spun around to go play with them a bit. I turned my music down (black metal) and I rolled my window down and asked them where I could get those pictures. They were all jacked because it seemed like I supported the cause. They gave me a bunch of literature and I asked if any of them knew if they were public domain photos. One guy said yes and I responded, "Great, these will make awesome album covers." Crude? Yeah, but fun.

Another thing I like to tell them to get them riled up is, "An unwanted fetus is no better than a tapeworm."

For the record I have had these guys get violent with me before, well, until I get out of the car and they discover that I'm 6'9" 350 lbs. Then they cower a little. So I don't necessarily suggest everyone fuck with them.
