Some serious news for a change. Python vs Gator
Oct 6, 7:13 AM EDT

Python bursts after trying to eat gator

By DENISE KALETTE
Associated Press Writer

MIAMI (AP) -- The alligator has some foreign competition at the top of the Everglades food chain, and the results of the struggle are horror-movie messy.

A 13-foot Burmese python recently burst after it apparently tried to swallow a live, six-foot alligator whole, authorities said.

The incident has heightened biologists' fears that the nonnative snakes could threaten a host of other animal species in the Everglades.

2. The article in the print edition this morning
Talked about people on a bridge watching a fight between a 17-19 foot python with a 9 foot gator. The fight lasted about 24 hours, and ended in a draw when they both decided to go their seperate ways.

3. did you see the photo of the python that killed the gator

6. Yeah, they had a description of it in the St. Pete Times
Said the pythons head was missing. Apparently another gator came by and had a snack.

5. Snakes will 1 day rule the land again, although please don't tell neocons
that or they'll go on a snake killing rampage just to prevent it from happening, lol.

Snakes, turtles, & reptiles in general are survivors. Mankind is just a fleeting breeze, passing by with a brief hello and goodbye.

Snakes are beautiful and amazing creatures. Crocks are cool, too, but not quite as interesting as snakes. Anyone hurts a snake and they'll have to reckon with mtnsnake. Yeah. :smoke:

7. We've got a 14 ft gator on the golf course
Around the corner from our house. Just sits there and sunbathes all day. I do have a big black snake in my yard. He eats the fruit rats, and less desireable snakes.

8. I have a strong phobia of snakes
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 04:04 PM by brentspeak
I'm not someone who scares easily, but that goes out the window when it comes to snakes. Just seeing one in a glass enclosure scares me.

9. Best thing you can do is go to a snake exhibit & pick some up,
let them crawl all over you. You'll see how dry they are, and wonderful. Don't mess with the biters of course, like most water snakes. Practice handling smaller ones like garter snakes and work your way up to boas. It won't be long before your phobia will disappear. Make sure you hands are clean before you handle them, though. After you get used to them, you'll probably want one of your own.
