Southwest Airlines
Check out headlines on Netscape. A woman was asked to get of a Southwest Airplane because she had an anti Bush shirt on. I suggest a letter writing campaign. Also Hilton Hotels are kick out Hurricane Katrina Victims.

1. She had the word "Fuck" on it

In most places that is considered vulgar/lewd.

3. Right. I wish people would give the whole story about the shirt
it wasn't just anti-Bush, it had profanity on it.

5. Shouldn't have been left on
If they have policy that then she shouldn't have let on the plane to begin with don't you think? She was only asked to leave after someone complained

6. They asked her to cover it, which she did, but then the covering came off
and they asked her to change the shirt.

2. Hi Cone, welcome to DU!
It's a good practice to put a link to the page you mentioned in your post. Just copy and paste it from the address line.

:hi:

4. I think the problem was not that the shirt was anti-Bush
but that it had the word "fuck" on it. If you go into a restaurant or a store or other business premises with a shirt that says "fuck" they might ask you to leave because their other customers could be offended. An airline is just as much within its rights to do the same thing.

8. I'm not sure about that
I think I could go into almost any restaurant or (especially) bar around here ith a shirt that said "fuck Clinton" and people would give me the thumbs up sign grin and laugh about it. and nobody would be offended by a "fuck Osama" tee shirt. It may be a matter of who is getting fucked. Of course I agree that any business is well within its rights to ask its patrons to remove articles of clothing they find offensive but some people are less offended by the words than who it's directed at.

7. Here's a thought: Why not start a thread about it?
oh wait, been there, done that, to the tune of a near-record 450 posts, and as the Energizer bunny would say, "still going":

9. VP
If the VP can say it on the floor of the Senate then it shouldn't be a problem on a T Shirt. I am so tired of this nonsense.

10. Thank the gods for Southwest Airlines - reasonably priced fares.
Let's not trash Southwest - if you have to fly somewhere with less than two weeks notice - family illness/emergency, etc., Southwest does not stick you with an $800 round trip ticket which you could have bought earlier for $150. And because of Southwest and the other low fare airlines, the big guys have to offer competitive rates. Without that competition, only the wealthy or those charging their travel to business expenses could afford to fly.

I read a lot of the posts about the obscene shirt incident, and I think Southwest handled it reasonably.

11. "You are now not free to fly about the country."
Or to wear things we might deem "offensive," too.
