Maybe I am stating the obvious -- however...
It seems that Bush's handlers intentionally isolate him from reality.

he doesn't watch, read, or listen to any news.

he surrounds himself with "yes" people.

he equates disagreement with disloyalty.

his handlers ensure that any speeches and meetings have handpicked audiences.

It's no wonder he doesn't have a clue. It's like a real-life Manchurian Candidate

3. No wonder the fundies equate him with Jesus.

All of those points you stated above applied to Jesus, but Jesus was a peacenik so Bush is better.

4. Incurious George. It's his JOB to scratch the veneer.
If you hold yourself out as the CEO prez, you should act like a CEO. Does a CEO only listen to happy news or does he/she make sure to follow all the latest industry news in order to remain competitive?

5. I have often thought the exact same thing
There have been several questionable incidents in the past when bush* was conveniently away from the helm, and the cheney crew "handled" everything.

In addition to everything that you have listed, I have also wondered about the substance abuse. Howard Hughes keeps coming to mind.
