$100,000?
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 09:39 PM by Zynx

That's all the richest and most powerful nation in the world can give to a nation that has suffered a national disaster on a tremendous scale? I'm embarrassed to be an American.

This is shameful.

22. Very true.
Bill "I didn't know anything" Frist could have given a tiny percent of his ill gotten proceeds from that stock sale for that much.

That is one thirtieth of one cent per person
Good Lord my high school could almost come up with that kind of money and that is totally pathetic.

6. I think my high school came up with something like $7,000 for the Tsunami.
That actually might have just been the senior class, which would be something like $20 a person.

19. We had a contest of money giving but I don't recall the results
My school has a bit under a thousand students and probably gave in the low thousands.

on average, than this little piddly amount we are giving AS A COUNTRY.

On edit: P.S. Sorry about the shouting. Just looked at my last couple posts, and I seem to be getting in to a habit. God, I just want to scream.

I think he offered a similar amount to Indonesia, then eventually was shamed into giving more -- after a whole bunch of other countries, including some much poorer ones, upped the ante. What a cheap SOB -- what an embarrassment.

It's working out OK for them because they were poor already.

though I'm familiar with that figure. That's why I was hedging.

23. Actually, for Current News, CNN didn't mention
* in any context at all. Nothing about Rove, Delay, Frist, Plame, nada! Post-Katrina, they're back to distraction, though why they'd want to save the PO(TU)S is beyond me.

And I think that is a much more appropriate gesture.

16. And have you noticed the pictures...?
I'm noticing plenty of media pictures of dead and wounded from this latest disaster. Yet the media is banned from showing us our war dead, and dead Katrina victims, in the name of 'privacy'. I guess the only dead we're allowed to see, or consider, are the ones our government isn't directly responsible for.

21. Why that is twice what they offered Cuba...but it is still insulting.
especilly after we were offered so much after Katrina. I believe that the poor people of Gaza came up with at least $20,000 out of their own threadbare pockets. SHAME on you George..SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.
Cuba turned down the chump change offer. So should Pakistan.

26. It was an act of mercy from the people themselves , who, even as
downtroden and oppressed as they are, have managed to preserve their sence of humanity and decency, which is far more than I can say for the admin bottom liners.
The Bush administration and their corporate puppet masters have divorced themselve from their soul. It showed sso clearly, in the early days after Katrina. They just didn't get it. Why was everyone so upset about a few thousand people trapped and starving and dying...THEY DO NOT CARE. They are too soul dead to even notice. It was only when they thought it would tarnish their image that they could muster a semblance of caring through carefully staged photo ops.
And now they respond to another great human tragedy with the same contemptous indifference. Shame, Shame, Shame.
