A Contest, In Ten Words or Less: Our agenda is (.....blank.....)
We should have something that can be rattled right off.

Their sound bite is "tax cuts and deregulation"

Here's mine for us.

Our agenda is... To preserve public services protections benefits and rights.

See if you can do better.

24. "... making capitalism work."
I think that's the kind of slogan that takes people off guard and reframes the debate.

We then get the opportunity to say all the ways we make capitalism work. Everything from universal health care to the Family Leave Act to worker's rights is part of making capitalism work.

I'd also talk about it in terms of fire. We believe that fire makes a good servant, so long as we keep it under control. The difference between an engine and an explosion is control. The Republicans are just the opposite. They believe in letting fire burn free and wild, completely uncontrolled. And when it's your house the fire is bearing down on, they just shrug and say, "That's the way fire is."

Republicans might throw some coins at you after a disaster. We help make sure the disaster never happens.

39. A waste of time to define a platform on DU, more directly.
If you want to unite a crowd as diverse as we are, you'll pretty much only be able to do it against a common enemy, and even then without total support. You'll have more luck stacking sand, but try all you want. I won't stop you.

40. I couldn't differ with you more. There are positive things we stand for
and I'm trying to help myself and others to articulate those things.

I call it preserving public services protections benefits and rights, and while such things can be taken too far (as can anything) I think you'll find that these are the things we are fighting for, against those who have contempt for anything public.

Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 02:13 PM by norml
Militarism is too vague a term for agenda sound bites.

One person's militarism is another person's strong on defense.

Opposing the politics of ever expanding invasions and occupations is a better agenda sound bite, in my humble opinion.

Still, for a sound bite I'd rather have a sound bite that's affirming, rather than negating.

Say no to the bad things of course, but say yes to what?
