Musharaf on Good Morning America............
saying to the people affected by quake, "For heaven's sake, it's only been 24 hours. Give us a break. Even the US didn't respond in 24 hours to New Orleans."

These leaders seem so friggin heartless. Sure, he has a point, but still....at least fake some compassion. Bush has set such a disastrous precedent for so many things........

:-(

1. Well he sounds rather callous but
given the terrain of the areas hit, he has a point. Further, unlike Katrina, they had no warning about the earthquake.

2. you're right.........
I know he has a point....it just comes across as so harsh.

But you bring up an excellent point....* had warning since it was a hurricane....these people had no warning.

3. i noticed this also
and don't be surprised if others around the world start using it.

the whole thing is if a nation as highly industrialized and wealthy as the United States can't do that , how can you expect us to.

only difference is that we CAN AND COULD do it but it was the Chimp who fucked it up as he does everything.

4. What is heartless about telling the truth?
At least Musharaf was on the scene within hours and is out rallying support for his country in less then 24 hours. If he wants to bash Bush while he's at it, I say bravo.

Maybe it's just a language barrier/accent that doesn't make him sound warm and fuzzy to our western ears?

5. When people are suffering so much.......
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 06:45 AM by timeforarevolution
it always comes across as harsh to me when those "in charge" try to defend themselves. IMO, Musharaf has nothing to defend.....he's absolutely correct that it's only been 24 hours, it was an unexpected catastrophe, and they are on the scene, doing what they can. No comparison to the Bush response at all.

I suppose I'm being sensitive, empathizing with those in such pain, but would rather a leader say, "We know you're suffering, we're doing the very best we can to get help to you right away," rather than be defensive, even a little bit.

Just a little thing, but more compassion rather than defensiveness can go a long way....on many levels.

*Edited to include the fact that the lack of compassion on the part of this administration makes me extra sensitive when I see it mirrored, even in the slightest, in others.

10. bush lowers the bar... yet again.

don't apologize for being sensitive to the pain of others. you are exhibiting a trait that great leaders should, and you are absolutely right! it would have gone a long way for both musharaf and bush.

boy oh boy! that bush! lowering the acceptable standards of human compassion for the world.

He isn't warm and fuzzy. He's a murderous, torturing, brutal dictator that was instrumental in toppling a democratic government.

11. Wonder if Pat Robertson will tell him God is angry for his supporting Bush
Since Pat always says every big disaster is for some great sin committed by the victims.
