Is a sneer or smirk considered an asset in Republican circles?

I hate Cheney's sneer. I would hate it on a Democrat, too. Our Republican candidate for Governor, Jerry Kilgore, seems to be trying to perfect a sneer like Cheney's.
Is a sneer considered an asset in Republican circles? Is a smirk? How about a sh*t eating grin like George Allen's? They all seem so lewd to me.
