MD's first lady shoots off her mouth
Just a bit of local news from Maryland. We, as you may know, are a largely Democratic state, but for some reason we ended up with a Repug governor (a temporary inconveninece, I'm sure), and his wife is apparently out to kill people.

Maryland first lady regrets Britney remark

http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/10/09/spears.maryland.reut/index.html

'Kendel Ehrlich, wife of the state's Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich, was criticizing what she views as the entertainment industry's negative influence on youth, during a domestic violence prevention conference last week in the city of Frederick.

"Really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would," Ehrlich laughingly told the audience, accusing the 21-year-old Grammy Award-nominated singer of exaggerating the importance of sex for young girls.'

I can't say I connect Britney with artistic quality in any sense, but jeezus.

Of course, Mrs. Ehrlich didn't leave it at that, once a fuss was made about it. According to the article, a spokeswoman noted that "...the first lady has concerns about the negative influences that the entertainment industry can have on young children and teenagers. During a public appearance, she inadvertently used a figure of speech to express those concerns."

1. Those Republicans are a violent bunch of folks.
There were so many other words she could have used to display here displeasure with that non-singer, but she chose to talk about killing her? Stupid!

2. Poor choice of words
Thats really a poor choice of words, but I have used similar expressions before without really wanting to kill someone.

Usually I add "to the moon" on the end of the sentence, like saying "I want to shoot * to the moon".

6. Staunch, no
She kinda sorta thinks she's a Republican because she trusts George Bush because he's the president y'know, and you're supposed to support the president.
