Do you know any Republicans who still brag about the 2004 election?
Personally, I don't know of anybody, but I still see them on the talk shows, hear them on the radio shows and see their posts on the conservative web sites.

It's now been a year with their childish taunts, "Na, na, na, nanna, na, We won, na, na, na, nanna! You liberals were rejected by the American people" Well now it's time to govern, and they can't blame us for anything. Nothing. If the mighty Oz brings a house down out of the sky, it's on their watch, and it's their fault.

It kind of reminds me of a football team that wins the championship and then spends the whole next season celebrating and taunting their opponents about last season's championship, even as they play like shit in the next season. Everybody in professional sports knows that when you win in one season it doesn't mean anything to anybody when you are back on the field the next season.

2. They've all gone very quiet.
To tell you the truth, I noticed a sense of doubt creeping in right after the election, that "be careful what you pray for" phenomenon. If the right continues to discredit itself, if enough of the sheeple can face the truth, then real change can begin to come about, and there may be some hope for the future.

3. They're too ashamed...they know it was pilfered. And since it was worth
more than $200.00 it was a felony.

Bad sports cheat then taunt you because they won. That's what it's all about. There are many Republicans out there who are offended by Bush and his tactics, just as there are many of us and many Independents who feel the same.

Find me more than a few thousand Americans who would support the lousy voting practices in this country if they had the truth and I'll buy you a Pink Cadillac.

You're absolutely right. People are backing off big time. Just look at the polls. His disapproval, don't know scores are in the 60's. There are a lot of Republicans, maybe as much as 1/3rd of that base, who have defected to disapprove or undecided.

He is history, bad history to boot!

4.  Republican/Conservative Exposure
I know a bunch. Not on tv, just in my life. The good thing though is that they are always trying to convert me. So they give me a lot of books that they think will do the trick. So I stay on top of all the conservative rhetoric. I just finished a book the right nation. It wasn't really all that fawning either, and it would be a good read for some people. I like to read and then I am more able to accurately and quickly refute conservatives.

5. The sports analogies
are apropos to me. A lot of people who voted for Bush and the Repubs (legitimately, that is) did so not because they necessarily believe in the "Repub" principles (I use the term loosely here;these goons are the farthest thing away from the less-government-fiscal-responsibility Pugs of the past) but because they want to be with a "winning" team. I think that's why so many people vote against their own best interests. It's not that the Repugs represent them, but that they represent what they aspire to be.

But their team is playing like shit these days, as you say, and the reality is that the tax cuts, among other things, haven't brought them any closer to what they aspire to.

I don't know of anyone personally who is openly bragging about their "team", but I'm still seeing those "W" stickers around, and I live in the SF Bay Area. I'm not sure what that means. Denial? Defiance? Let them go down with the ship, I guess.

The pubs in my area may be a little less vocal, but they haven't changed their tune.

On edit: it's pretty disgusting to think that they need a Katrina dropped on them to realize the truth...pisses me off and saddens me.

10. Those repukes are still hot and heavy around here.
There is this back country road, where one guy has this huge brush poster on the side of his barn. A little further down the same road, another guy had a smaller Kerry poster on the side of his barn. All through the election those signs remained in tact. For eight months after the election neither sign was torn or damaged. Just this month someone ripped the Kerry sign apart. I think it's an indication of their desperation.

11. Yes, in real life (the one we live in),
not their "shining city on the hill."

You cannot reason with these people.

You cannot convince them of the truth of Daniel Moynihan's words, "we are all entitled to our own set of opinions, not our own set of facts."

The last six weeks have caused many Bush stalwarts to "go to ground." There is nothing left to defend. Nothing left for them to point to with false pride.

The indictments to come will not convince them either. Theirs is not a dream world; it's a nightmare. Unfortunately, the MIHOP results of last year's election have made ours one, too.

13. They are going into hiding.
At work there used to be Bush stuff everywhere. (It's a sales building). People had pictures of people on their cubes that they had bullet holes from shooting at. They had their NRA stickers. They had their Bush pins. Now almost every bumpersticker has vanished and posters are vanishing.
There is one poor sap upstairs who has a giant Bush post and a giant Cheney picture on his cube walls in front of where he has to look while at work. I'm betting he is psycho. OK, that's a given since he is in sales.

On a bad call at the end of the game. You didn't hear any Buckeye fans bragging about the win.
