Scotty's heated Press Conference(crooks and liars)
Scotty's heated Press Conference

Scotty went after Helen Thomas hard at the briefing today and he was peppered with questions about the Photo-op with the troops as well.

As Josh notes: In this morning's gaggle, Scott McClellan got asked whether the teleconference the president had with troops in Tikrit was scripted. Here's what he said ...

QUESTION: How were they selected, and are their comments to the president pre-screened, any questions or anything... MCCLELLAN: No. QUESTION: Not at all? MCCLELLAN: This is a back-and-forth.
Here's how the pool report (i.e., from the designated reporter on the scene) described what happened.

The soldiers, nine U.S. men and one U.S. woman, plus an Iraqi, had been tipped off in advance about the questions in the highly scripted event. Allison Barber, deputy assistant to the Secretary of Defense for internal communication, could be heard asking one soldier before the start of the event, "Who are we going to give that to?" Oh well ...Thanks Josh!

2. I wonder if any TV reporters will do a story on this blatant propaganda
rehearsed -- as usual.

And Scottie's blatant LIE.

it is newsworthy.

8. Some hope?
I really think, or hope, the media has changed in the wake of Katrina. Reporters now regularly talk about Bush "photo-ops" in Iraq & the Gulf Coast. Yeah, the media hyped the subway threat, but they also at least mentioned when it wasn't found credible (that's the first time I've heard them doubt one of these "alerts"). It seems like it's "safer" now to point out Bush administration manipulation of the media now (by Olberman and others) - when the MSM didn't talk about this at all. It's almost like the media is now willing to peek behind the curtain and see who's creating these images of spectacle & terror. That's got to be a good thing.

4. Stunning that he has the cojones to lecture Helen Thomas
on war and the sacrifices required.

Scotty's said he could go back and pull up her records to illustrate to Terry Moran that that she opposes the war.

Hey, Scotty, why don't you go pull up your own records and review what you said...

31. He's too sexy for his uniform
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 08:28 PM by Patsy Stone
His head's too big, he's too full of himself.

"Put me in coach!" and Gibbs didn't. So he starts saying, "They won't put me in and I don't know why."

Then Gibbs says, "When it's time for him to go in, he'll go in." But it's not enough for him. Did you see him on that ESPN Dream Job show? He's the most interesting and intelligent person he knows. Joe's back, and there's a new sheriff in town. The big fish needs to chill.

9. Must read! WH Afternoon Briefing w/Scotty...
Trust Me...
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/10/20051013-2.html

Here is a sample:

Q But we asked you specifically this morning if there would be any screening of questions or if they were being told in any way what they should say or do, and you indicated no.

MR. McCLELLAN: I don't think that's what the question was earlier today. I think the question earlier today was asking if they could ask whatever they want, and I said, of course, the President was -- and you saw --

Q And I asked if they were pre-screened.

MR. McCLELLAN: You saw earlier today the President was trying to engage in a back-and-forth with the troops. And I think it was very powerful what Lieutenant Murphy was saying at the end of that conversation, when he was talking about what was going on in January, how the American troops and coalition forces were in the lead when it came to providing security for the upcoming election, an election where more than eight million Iraqis showed up and voted. It was a great success.

Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 05:19 PM by Nothing Without Hope
From today's emailed Countdown newsletter about the show tonight (MSNBC, 8pm and midnight ET). The entire emailed newletter, which is titled ”That ‘Unscripted” TV Moment,” is posted here:

Subject: That "Unscripted" TV Moment

Date: October 13, 2005 4:01:08 PM EDT

------------------------------------------------------
Tonight on Countdown
------------------------------------------------------

A handpicked group of U.S. troops told President George W. Bush on Thursday they believed the Iraqi people were eager to vote in a weekend referendum on an Iraqi constitution. In a carefully scripted event, Bush spoke to 10 U.S. troops and an Iraqi soldier in a video teleconference about preparations for the Saturday vote, which is critical to U.S. aims for democracy in Iraq and creating conditions for the ultimate withdrawal of American forces. Bush, suffering job approval ratings below 40 percent, the lowest of his presidency, is eager to show progress in Iraq as the American death toll nears 2,000. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll last month said only 32 percent of Americans approved of his handling of Iraq. http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N13627152.htm

We will have excerpts of this bizarre teleconference.

And Scott McClellan's press briefing today... notable... you won't want to miss this.

Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann broadcasts LIVE at 8 pm et, and the count is never complete without you. Join us.
