Bono distances himself from santorum, hillary
and to those of you who thought this was some kind of definitive proof that Bono was a Bushie, looks like you were wrong

----
WASHINGTON - U2's Bono says he is not involved in efforts by

Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Rick Santorum, R-Pa., and other politicians have scheduled fundraising events in private suites during shows for U2's North American Vertigo tour, which runs through the end of December.

Jamie Drummond, executive director of DATA, an Africa advocacy group that Bono helped found, said in a message posted on the band's Web site: "Neither DATA nor Bono are involved in these (fundraisers), and they cannot be controlled. The U2 concerts are categorically not fundraisers for any politician; they are rock concerts for U2 fans."

Another DATA spokesman said Bono was speaking for himself and not for the rest of the Irish rock band.

1. This was debunked a couple days ago, you are a little
late on the draw. I can't believe DU'ers actually thought Bono would stump for Tricky Ricky...

Kerry and Teresa have openly targeted Santorum for extinction....well....extinction for his senate seat, anyway..

4. Hold on Sanitorum was able to purchase 66 seats!....Hows that work?
I thought U2 was against price gouging and worked against this kind of thing. I'm a big fan of the band but its sad to hear shit like this. First real fans have to deal with scalpers buying up all the tickets and putting them on Ebay at extreme prices and now we have to deal with brown nosing politicians exploiting our favorite acts for thier political gain. One more sad thing to add to the sorry state of the world these days. U2 should ban all politicians from using thier name unless they want to be directly associated with that politician. At least we the fans would know where they stand.

That's what I say--what's to stop a candidate who's a member of the Right To Eat Babies party from buying a block of tickets, charging thousands of dollars, and calling it a fundraiser? The band ought to be able to have a say in that!

8. From U2's website:
DATA have posted a statement reacting to 'inaccurate media statements on U2 shows as political fundraisers.'

We're posting the statement here because we've had a number of emails expressing concern about certain media stories people have read.

Jamie Drummond, Executive Director of DATA (debt AIDS trade Africa), the Africa Advocacy group co-founded by Bono said this earlier today:

'Throughout the U2 tour, politicians from both sides have been organizing
fundraisers at the venues or around specific shows. Neither DATA or Bono are involved in these and they cannot be controlled. The U2 concerts are categorically not fundraisers for any politician - they are rock concerts for U2 fans.'

Don't believe everything you read!

9. If U2 had the balls they would cancel.
Cancel a couple 1k a ticket gigs and they would stop.
