freeper, "you don't understand the difference between choreography and
scripting."

To: SandRat; ASOC
I would suggest you go back and read critically this time, that is to say, a whole lot more closely.

snip/
Now, either you didn't read closely or you don't understand the difference between choreography and scripting. There is absolutely no indication (and even a disclaimer) that it was scripted, other than Rieckhoff's unsubstantiated claim. Fox did report his claim, but laying out what questions would be asked and determining who would answer them IS adequately described as Fox does, in terms of "choreographed" and "rehearsed." They are significantly and substantially different from "scripting" which in fact is denied in the article.

I find the Fox piece balanced reporting from/to which you have "selectively" read/responded.

3. Well there is a difference.
I dont now the details of the photo op but if the only scripted part was what order the soldiers would ask their questions then I dont think I could it "scripted".

10. From my perspective, the story is that the photo op did not
represent the feelings of the troops about the war but was a staged event to make it look like the troops support the war. Scripted or otherwise that is the case, it was dishonest. To turn the discussion over to semantics is to ignore the fact that Bush cannot have a live discussion with the troops and get the results he needs.

12. You cant televise how every soldier feels.
I have no doubts this was nothing more then a photo op for Bush. All im saying is if it wasn't "scripted" then we shouldn't be calling it that.

"Photo Op" say sit all anyways.

17. Did you catch the prepping video, though? They were being
prepped down to "taking a little breath" before answering the question and told, "you have a chance to get a real message out here."

Watch the Olbermann coverage for the clip. I think it's on crooksandliars.

16. Choreography is the dance term for script.
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 09:46 PM by JDPriestly
The problem with Bush's little play was that it was presented as something spontaneous, while in reality it was rehearsed, if you will, choreographed. Had it not been presented in a question and answer, Town Hall forum style, had Bush simply said: We rehearsed this, there would be no problem. Had he said, "I'm not really calling on these servicemen spontaneously. The questions and the answers were prepared and rehearsed," no problem.

The trouble with Bush's scripting or choreographing his appearances to the extent that he does is that the American people never see anything real. It's all illusion. And the biggest illusion of all is that Bush thinks on his feet or -- actually thinks at all. In fact, his ideas are also scripted. So, who's writing the scripts? Are people voting for Bush or for his scriptwriters?

The founding fathers intended that philosophers and thinking men would run our government, not actors following a script or choreography. Can you imagine what would have happened to this country had the Lincoln/Douglas debates been "choreographed"? Bush's presidency is a travesty.

This has gone on since the Bush presidency began. Suskind described the staging and scripting of events in The Price of Loyalty. I scoffed at the idea that Bush was being coached by someone through an ear piece or device during the debates. But now I'm not so sure.

...might point out the following to the FR crew:

Allison: "...if you have the microphone and he follows up with a question to you, you just, uh, no matter who has it, Capt. Pratt, if you have the microphone, and the President hears something and he wants more information you just keep that microphone and talk to the President."

Capt. Pratt: "Okay."

Allison: "All right. But if he gives us a question that's not something that we've scripted, Capt. Kennedy, you're going to have that mike and that's your chance, uh, impress us all."

Capt. Kennedy: "Okay."

Allison: "(heh heh) Which won't be a problem for you."

20. Freeper koolaid drinkers think WH planned it that way
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1502051/posts

To: Former Military Chick

"This is getting worse by the minute."

Blahahaha! We have seen these petty attack since 2000. It comes from both Republicans and Democrats, yet Bush lives on and on and on.

To: Recovering Ex-hippie

FOX reported on this too. So all the media are reporting on it. It was stupid to do this. It was even dumber for Scott McClellan to deny it was scripted when it just pisses off the reporters.

I doubt FOX would have reported this story so heavily if McClellan didn't out and out lie to the press. The President's media team including McClellan need to be rotated out of service.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/10/20051013-2.html

Here's a link to the transcript. I don't understand why the WH even tolerates this kind of disrespect from reporters. Helen Thomas' remarks in particular. I think it was she who responded to this statement:

McC: Just three years ago, the Iraqi people were under a brutal, oppressive dictator, a dictator that killed thousands and thousands of people.

Q: How many have we killed?

It is just typical MSM nonsense. It is not even American MSM nonsense.

Oh yes it is. It's all over the news this afternoon. I thought the ABC Newsbreak reporter was going to pee; as usual, they tried to make Bush look as bad as possible.

Big Deal..all the Dims did, was show what a bunch of sour grapes loserists they are, looking for any opportunity to
mock our President and our troops in the field.

They are rat wormy excuses for human beings.

I couldn't believe it when I caught the tail-end of this on Fox.

I watched this earlier in the day and thought it was great, the Iraqi soldier (who, I think said I like you, or we, or something, caught it in passing), and the guy from Tennessee, who said The Volunteer State.

Talk about grasping at straws!! The left is exploding. This kind of NA NA NA NA NA crap will only turn off more normal people, and the nuts that hate Bush already are never going to change their minds.

I say let 'em speak -- like Cindy Sheehan.

Can we please get rid of this total as*hole Mclellan!!!!!
He should have been LONG GONE! Total incompetence. comes off like a whiny little moron! Stupid, slow on his feet and woosy-like!

I know what you mean about McClellan. But I have begun to think that this is exactly what Team Bush wants from him. He is so clueless, monotonous, and dull that he drives the MSM nuts. They look like rabid animals as they clamor to take a bite of him.

Isn't it time to bring back the SEDITION act!

I think this tells us that unless something happens to change the situation...

That President Bush should just stay at the White House behind closed doors....because it is obvious that now, not on the libs, dems, and media are gonna nit-pick him apart...

so are conservatives and people that normally at least have shown respect for the office he holds if nothing else.

It seems that Shep got so many accolades for showing up the POTUS while standing on that freeway in New Orleans...that he now has license to belittle him and tear apart everything he does now...

I guess these people do NOT care that as they tear this fine man DOWN....they are also ruining the respect of the office of the CIC and the POTUS for all of the world to see, and mimic.

I watched it and of course it was staged. I didn't have a problem with that. They were obviously trying to get certain points across to the American public. The problem was that the soldiers contradicted the unstaged MSM reporting. Oh the horror!!!!

NBC Nightly ran this as the top item.. LOLOL

What a sad sack of ignoramuses these MSM outlets are,,

They stooop lower than ever at any "opportunity" to tear down the administration,

What a joke the MSM has become,, a bad joke.

BTW..A little while ago...on a Fox News break...there was a story about a NEW POSITION that has been created --- some kind of czar of the undercover terrorist hunter wing of the government...Some sort of high up person to be the boss over information gleaned from undercover agents...but, his identity CANNOT be told...totally clandestine...but, here is where I have a problem with this...

THEY HAMED THE COVERT CZAR---JOSE!!! Yeppers..an AMERICAN SUPER SPY CHIEF...they named him JOSE!

What kind of crapola is that....why not JOHN--James, Tom, Dick, Harry....why the hell did they give him a Spanish NAME FGS!!!!

I think this is a strategy by the Dems and the MSM. I don't believe there is out and out collusion on it, but I think they definitely subscribe to the "Death by a thousand cuts" strategy.

Every single day, no matter what, something must be said that is negative about the President, his staff, the administration, the state of the country, the economy, the war, etc. They are all doing it, the fork is struck and they all vibrate in unison.

If enough garbage is thrown against the wall, even if none of it sticks, this sets the Demotards up for the next election cycle. If they can push conservative candidates into a position where all they are doing is defending themselves, they are not going to win. You cannot score any points while playing defense.

I think this is their strategy. Will conservatives bite? Many here have.

McClellan comes from a very important family in Texas that has worked closely with George W. Bush for many years.

"I don't understand why the WH even tolerates this kind of disrespect from reporters"

Since they want stand up to liberal MSM reporters, it's no wonder they want challenge the Gang of 14 and other RINOs. Stupid is as stupid does.

Even if they were coached, so what? Personally I'm not going to lose sleep over it, as I expect this kind of garbage from the media these days. They're the minority voice of this country, nobody buys into their spin, they cater to the party that survives on conjecture and right-wing conspiracies. We should stop acting like they're an unstoppable force that cannot be reckoned with, and stop getting our dander up over nothing.

21. The woman doing the prep used the word "scripted."
"if he asks something that is not in what we have scripted, then..."

Of course, as others have pointed out, it wasn't what it was billed as and therefore a LIE no matter what other term you use.
