Eight dolphins seen in Lake Pontchartrain
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 10:06 PM by KamaAina
I was not even aware that the lake had any dolphins! As a dolphin enthusiast, my fist thought is, "Mmmm... new dolphins I haven't yet seen..." This just might make N.O. the country's urban dolphin capital (O'ahu's dolphins live on the north and west shores of the island, away from Honolulu). NEW ORLEANS - The manatees that grazed in Lake Pontchartrain before Hurricane Katrina haven't been seen since, but eight dolphins were leaping in the lake this week.

"If the big critters are back, the lake is definitely coming back," Carlton Dufrechou, executive director of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, said Thursday.

Flocks of pelicans and the pod of dolphins spotted Monday indicate that there are fish for them to eat, he said....

"We knew Pontchartrain would heal itself," but the rate at which it seems to be doing so is a welcome surprise, Dufrechou said.

Pity about the manatees, but (click squeak squeeeeak click click clickclickclick)!!!!

edit: shorees? What are shorees?

Fa is coming, and is he pissed!!!!

I actually did hear about Navy dolphins in the region going missing in Katrina; wasn't sure whether to file that one under "tinfoil hat" :tinfoilhat: or not.

5. Yes there were. It had taken conservationists years to bring them back.
And then... well, Bush** happens. :(
