Bar Owners VS Police in New Orleans
Currently a curfew of midnight exists for the French Quarter but bar owners say they will stay open later than that tonight. They say the Mayor called for businesses to resume action to get the city back up and running and they want to do just that. As most folks know, action on Bourbon Street doesn't get cranked up until midnight. News story pending!

1. The bar owners need to break out their protective headgear.
I heard they are going to stay open for 20 hours straight. I wonder if the cops are going to crack heads like they did the other night? I'd be worried if I were a bar patron. Perhaps the bar owners should provide lodging for the bar patrons who don't wish to go out on the street after closing time. Let's hope all remains calm.

:hi:

2. A couple of days ago
at midnight, the bartender at Johnny White's Sports Bar (corner of Bourbon and Orleans, cattywumpus to Tropical Isle) turned out the lights and told the customers to get down and be quiet. The police came and ran everybody off. Johnny White's never closes, they don't have a key to the place.

I think the Mayor and the police chief will ensure cooler heads prevail tonight. They don't need anymore bad pub. I cannot understand why there is a curfew. The reason given, clear streets in case ambulances need to run to hospitals?? Way too much tax revenue is collected on Bourbon after midnight for the Mayor not to weigh the options in the bar's favor. Besides, the biggest crime activity on Bourbon Street has been drug transactions gone bad, and for the short term, the drug dealers have been rounded up.

I'm off to the feed and seed to get some Pansies and another pole to hang bird feeders on.

3. I wonder how the birds weathered the hurricane?
It must have been a rough ride. The poor animals really suffered. I'm sure they'll appreciate bird seed!

4. Our bird population has come back strong
Conspicuously absent though are the squirrels. Our mocking birds seem to sing prettier than ever. Our driveway is lined with Crepe Myrtle. We lost one and that's where the extra bird feeder stand is going until we figure out what to do with that spot. My wife keeps the birds in tall cotton year round. I chucked all our potted plants into holes left by tree stumps and now we need some fall color. Pansies, maybe some Dianthus. We have a great feed and seed up the road but they got hit pretty good and just have a few plants out. But, its getting better every day. I'm itching to go to Slidell and check out the slab where my favorite bar used to be.
