For Pre$$titutes, The "Bush Is Likable" Meme Won't Die
http://www.presstitutes.com/presstitutes/2005/10/for_pretitutes_.html

On CNN during the 11 am EST hour, Daryn Kagan hosted a brief segment on Bush's body language called "Every Body Talks."

One of her comments was (paraphrasing): "People say in person Bush is a likable guy."

The power of these kinds of media narratives is not just the simplicity of the concept but the sheer volume of insidious repetitions.

3. Ted Bundy was likeable, too.
I guess that by media standards, his multiple rape and murder crimes just, well, weren't really all THAT bad. That hair! Those eyes! That gleaming smile! Who could hate a guy like that?

2. Once people feel screwed
by someone it usually takes more than people saying, "But he is likeable and popular" to change their minds.

If Bush** turned completely around and started governing like a real president I would never, ever feel differently than I do now. He has screwed us all way too much at this point to ever be able to atone for it or build trust.

The polls tell us that people have had it with him. I do not think the media telling them he is a good guy will ever change that at this point. Then again, I have been frequently wrong.

4. The sad thing is that the media are not the only ones carrying this meme
Democrats have been doing the same thing for a long time, unfortunately.

That's how mass murderers get to be mass murderers, Daryn.

10. Why don't we create our own FOB list of pundits who can be counted
to spin the right-wing bullshit? Even the freepers know that the liberal media doesn't exist.

So, who are the new right-wing media whores:
Daryn Kagan
Chris Matthews
??

13. That's exactly the point of my site
http://www.presstitutes.com/

To list the many transgressions of the so-called "legitimate' press, not the usual suspects like Limbaugh and Coulter.

15. She's Rush's "mistress", right? I tried to watch a bit of CNN, and
I kept thinking about how could she sit there and act normal, when she's seen Rush's Limbaugh? And just where-all has that mouth been?

14. sorry, but i don't really know anyone who finds him likable personally
the likable crap comes mostly from the media whores and those who never met him.

and i don't count Harriet Miers types opinions here. i'm talking about sane people.

those who meet him seem to come away feeling he is an asshole.

17. all good con men are likeable
not that I really believe the spin - he is only likeable if you are a gazillionaire or one of his surrogate mommy figures - those are people that he is probably decent to.

19. I'd find Bush irritating even if he wasn't President.
He would come off to me as a corporate shithead type, who acts super-friendly, while secretly stabbing you in the back. I don't like those types.
