1. Get your voters registered, get them to the polls, be a whip
Also, organize and run your precinct meeting at the presidential election time. What state, madmom, as it varies somewhat by state.

2. Get Out The Vote
Your primary job is to get people in your precinct to vote.

4. the reason I ask is because..
I just received a phone call from a member of the board of our county committee and she said she enjoys reading my LTTE's and invited me to a meeting they're having tomorrow and asked if I would be interested in becoming precinct chairman.Told her I'd let her know at the meeting tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

5. Do it. We always need good precinct chairs.
If you want to get active on a continuing, regular basis in the party, being a precinct chair is a good starting point.

6. Herd the donkeys for the Democratic Party
Be called a member of the DLC, a corporate whore, a tree hugger, a baby killer, a right-wing whacko, a tax and spend liberal, anti-american, a peacenik, a pinko, a war monger, and preferably by most in the end - your name.

You'll meet people (Democrats and non-Democrats) who will view you as everything that is wrong with the Democratic Party at first, because YOU ARE the Democratic party to them.

You know, the typical spiel that a sales rep gets when they're first hired. To the "customer", YOU are the "company". Well, to the VOTER, you are the PARTY.

Also, represent your precinct to the county committee in many places.

Hi everybody ;)

7. Mostly GOTV and telephone tree stuff
Make sure that your precinct members know about fund-raisers, candidate events and meeting dates.

On election day getting the voters to the polls, poll watchers and also helping work on absentee ballot votes.

13. Committee person or chair?
If you're a committee person you whip up the base: get people to register and vote. You could also help get volunteers for candidates and help look for candidates. When my parents were precinct committee people they would hold coffees or potlucks and introduce candidates to the precinct members or find out what the prevailing concerns were for executive meetings.

If you're a precinct chair it might be the one who gets the precinct committee people to do their job or find people to fill the spots.
