"Good Night, and Good Luck" is at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes
with 86 reviews in from the nation's reviewers.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/good_night_and_good_luck/?beg=25&int=25&page=1

For the uninitiated, "Good Night, and Good Luck" is a film about CBS anchor Edward R. Murrow's exposé of Junior Senator Joseph McCarthy during the 1950s. The film is directed by George Clooney and stars David Stathairn as Murrow and Clooney as his producer Fred Friendly. Clooney has said he made the film as a wake-up call to the modern media to start reporting the facts again--to go back to the days when televised news really meant to SHOW what was truly going on.

"Rotten Tomatoes" is a web site that compiles reviews from the media across the country and then computes a percentage of how many of those reviews are positive versus how many are negative. 97% positive is pretty darn high. I actually don't think I've seen a number that high for a film since the first "Lord of the Rings" movie.

Call your local theater and demand that they show this film. It is truly an important piece of filmmaking.

But then again, so does "Steve Doocey". What the Hell kind of name is "Doocey." Dutch? Scottish? Wouldn't it look beter as Ducey?

This is the kind of shit I think about when I see "Fox and Friends."

its hypnotically awful, I guess. That and it does a better job than coffee waking me up in the morning, just a few minutes of that show and i'm in a near-blind rage, ready to face the day with a clenched fist.

A minute of "Fox and Friends" and I'm ready to indiscriminately kill. That's the sort of adrenaline rush that helps me through the day.

Thanks Steve Doocey.

14. Irish -- and I found an interesting link.
Irish surname search

(O) DUCEY, Dufficey Ducey, Ducy, Ducie Doocey

. Found mainly in Munster, especially in Counties Tipperary and Waterford. It occurs eleven times in the index to the only record now extant of the Hearth Money Rolls for Co. Tipperary Rolls. In Griffith's Valuation (c. 1855) for that county there are 21 householders called Doocey. These names occur very rarely in other Irish records, though Ducie does appear occasionally in Great Britain. The form Doocey has been occasionally reported as in use as a synonym of Duffy in the Milford district of Co. Donegal.

A note of interest: Lookie where I found an entry for "Steve Doocey": http://liberalscum.com/archive.html Ya think this has anything to do with his negative review? Hmmmm? ;)

26. God, that's just pathetic
Even for a useless skin job like Doocey.

I remember his dumb afternoon talk/variety show "House Party" which always seemed to be on when I came home from work back in the late 90s. It was, naturally, bland and stupid just like its host, and it didn't last very long. I can't believe the guy found another job after that, but leave it to FOX to break new ground in lameness.

I used to work with his brother. We had classrooms next door to each other for over ten years. I met the actor once. But I always heard stories my teaching buddy.

Classy guy. And I read an interview once with several actresses saying they love to work with him!

28. In So. Cal. I think DS lives in NY or Conn.
His brother talked of him wanting to do something in NYC so that he could be home w/his kids and wife. Also, picking apples.

I think that's when he tried t.v.

He is very picky about roles. So, he does have time w/family.

From bro's stories, could have been a tumultuous early life. You never know. Siblings don't always see things the same way.

46. Holy Crap! When I read your post I *knew* you had to be talking about
the man who played Benteen. I've only seen the trailer for the Murrow movie a couple of times but there's no mistaking those eyes. I'd never heard his name before.

You're absolutely right.... as Benteen he monopolized my attention from the moment he first appeared on screen. Fourteen years later I still remember the first words he spoke: "Mistakes Were Made".

What a freakishly poor case of casting that the historically flamboyant, charismatic, and passion-provoking Custer should by so eclipsed by a subordinate who had almost no screen time at all. In fact even the guy who played Reno made more of an impact. And as for Rodney Grant as Crazy Horse... :loveya:

Anyway, just based on that experience I would expect that the Murrow movie is going to be fantastically good, from the charisma of the star if nothing else.

13. I've never liked George Clooney.
Even in ER, I thought he was a pretty lousy actor, or maybe the parts he played just weren't appealing to me. The only entertaining thing I've seen him do was "From Dusk till Dawn", and that was just because I like almost any vampire movie.

16. Regardless of what you think of Clooney's acting...
he's an outspoken, unapologetic liberal and a talented filmmaker. He has a true love for the integrity of television news of old, as his dad was a popular TV newsman in Ohio back in the day (and a Dem candidate for Congress in the last election).

Check this movie out. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Clooney made a lot of gutsy decisions in this movie, including presenting only REAL video of Joseph McCarthy instead of hiring an actor to portray him. Test audiences loved the movie but that thought the actor who played McCarthy was "over the top". They had no idea that the cartoonish goof on screen was the real deal!!

Take Heart. There's NO Space today on M$M for Murrow...but the "Internet" has hundreds of him....and eventually those of us here will find that WE here on this medium ...made a huge difference.

Murrow got his voice in the very early days of TV becoming "Mainstream."

Almost where WE ALL ARE with the Internet these days with it almost becoming "mainstream" yet today on CNN Karen Hughes (Bush's Good Will Ambassador for "Karen's Great Adventure Across the World) said that her SON ...knows "all about the internet" but it just isn't something she's comfortable with."

 Karen and Bush Admin...don't realize that there's thousands of "reporters on the beat...foot soldiers" who are doing and supporting a whole new age of reporting "right under their noses." :-)

WE ARE THE MURROW's...believe it ...we ARE!
