Supreme Court Declines to Block Abortion for Missouri Inmate - Unanimous
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBGY32YWEE.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court, in an abortion case of relatively narrow scope, cleared the way Monday for a Missouri prison inmate to terminate her pregnancy.

The high court decision was not a sweeping rendering on the issue of abortion, per se, but rather a holding that Missouri corrections officials must drive the woman to a clinic to have the procedure. It was unclear how soon that would be done.

Late Friday, Justice Clarence Thomas had granted a temporary stay to the state, which prevented the woman from having an abortion on Saturday. But Monday's high court action was unanimous.

Abortion has been a divisive issue at the Supreme Court and an emotional subject in the confirmation of President Bush's picks for the court.

1. Well this is good news.
Why did Thomas temporarily block the woman from going to the doctor?

3. Because women are objects

7. Unfortuantely, I do. Unpleasant, icky memories.
That poor woman he harrassed was smeared. :(
Thomas is supposed to be the least intellectually capable of all of the justices.

6. Probably to allow the SCOTUS time to review the case.
There's little point in accepting a case for review of state law if, by the time the review has occurred, the law would have been broken and the funds spent, or the obligation to spend the funds had already been incurred.

5. Though I'm glad about this decision it makes no sense. How
can they make a decision without any reasoning? It doesn't answer the question. Is it unconstitutional for a state to make a law that tax payer funding cannot support abortion when the woman is under state control?

8. It would have been nice to get the opinion, but it is FANTASTIC that
they are supporting her right to an abortion!
