DOD Reneges on Putting Ed Schultz on Armed Forces Radio (Alison Barber)
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 02:34 PM by maxrandb
Yes that Alison Barber. The same one from the staged Chimpy conference call.

Ed was talking about it now. I don't have a link, but will look for one. In a nut shell, here's what happened.

I for one (since I am a troop) have been disgusted that for over 10 years now, Armed Forces Radio has been broadcasting Rush Limpballs on AFRTS (A-Farts for those of us in the military). On 29 September, DOD made arrangements to carry Ed Schultz. There reasoning for only carrying Rush was that he was the "most popular" talk radio host out there and THERE WAS NO POLITICAL CONSIDERATION!!!

Well, Ed was supposed to start on AFRTS today. They apparently got an e-mail from one Alison Barber, who apparently is the Presidents minister of propaganda, saying that Ed's show would not be carried.

So here you have it folks. Our military is being fed a steady diet of one sided neo-con crap!!!

This is America????

1. Self-Serving Kick 'cause this is HUGH
This is nothing but unadulterated censorship. It's nothing but right-wing propaganda, and they are doing it with your's and my tax dollars.

If the excuse is because Ed is critical of the President, someone needs to ask them how the hell Limpballs survived on DOD Radio during the Clinton years?

2. Is Limbaugh the most popular talk radio host? More than Stern?
I know he's got a lot of idiot listeners, but for some reason I thought Stern had more.

4. I Have Heard...
...that a lot of the military is fed up with Bush, so I bet Ed would be popular. I think Bush is afraid of that. It doesn't matter, Bush. You can keep Ed off, but it won't change the fact that they hate you!

8. OT - Laughing Man
I'm thinking the next step for LM is to get some pix of administration officials speechifying, e.g. Snotty Mclellan, and put that sucker right on top of their shameless heads. Better yet, get some moving footage of shrub giving one of his less coherent commentaries, and dub in the moving laughingman picture whenever he starts going all silly. First one will be pretty easy, second one will be... err... less easy. Prime candidate for starters would be the "sovereignity" Q&A, IMHO.

7. My senator Tom Harkin was instrumental in getting balance
on armed forces radio. I wrote him as soon as I heard it. Don't know if it'll do much good. Harkin was a bulldog on getting balance. Worked for a long time on it.

6. Bush has made the U.S. military his own private Republican Guard
That's one way to privatize the government. Now, they only get exposed to ChimpCo officially screened commentary.

9. It's Been that Way for Years and Years
Especially at the Officer level. You would be amazed. You could go into any military command, and every single television will be tuned to Faux News. Except when I was standing watch and controlled the remote.

The rank and file enlisted folks are pretty much what you would expect a cross section of America to look like. In fact, at the NCO level and below, you might even see the military leaning more toward Democrats than Republicans.

I had a great Officer once. We were stationed in a large room with deviders separating the various desk (just like what you would see in a regular office). People used to tune their radios to Rush. You couldn't help but hear the fat, drug addicted neo-nazi. This officer did not tolerate the air pollution of Rush, especially since Clinton happened to be president at the time. He made people either tune to something else, or wear headphones.

I LOVED THAT GUY!!

Anyway, for those of you that have seen me post before. I'm a prior enlisted guy that earned a commission. What the Navy calls a "Mustang"...and YES! I am a bleeding heart liberal!!!

Perhaps the most satisfaction I get is when the younger Sailors meet me and realize that you don't have to be a "knuckle-dragging, neanderthal, neo-con", to love and serve your country.

10. Here's what they have to say at his link:
10/18/2005 ) Armed Forces Radio Tunes Out Liberal Show Host

Liberal radio talker Ed Schultz was eagerly anticipating his debut yesterday on Armed Forces Radio, which agreed last month to carry his program to nearly a million soldiers around the world.

But at 7 a.m., Schultz's producer got a call from Allison Barber, the Pentagon's deputy assistant secretary for internal communications, who said without explanation that the deal was off.

Perhaps, Schultz said in an interview, it was just a coincidence that he spent the end of last week chastising Barber for coaching a group of U.S. soldiers in Iraq before a teleconference with President Bush.

"It kind of floored us," Schultz said from his studio in North Dakota. "The fact is, they don't want dissenting voices or any other kind of speech unless it's going to be promotional for them. Obviously, these people are making sure they're not going to have any opinion other than the Rush Limbaughs of the world."

Hope there's some way to bypass the Pentagon's stupid, arrogant attempt to keep Armed Forces Radio undemocratic.

11. Who can taxpayers complain to?
I should not have to underwrite Rush's pathetic career with my tax dollar! That's sick.
