Question about Grand Juries
I've seen a few posts recently suggesting that the case Fitzgerald is making is bigger than the original inquiry about the leak of Valerie Plame's identity.

My question to any legal experts here is whether it's possible for him to expand the inquiry (to leaked or falsified information about Iraq's WMDs for instance) - or must the Grand Jury stick to the original investigation?

1. In a GJ context, there really is no "original investigation"
to stick to. Usually, a prosecutor can present evidence on anything to a GJ, and if new avenues of inquiry open, the prosecutor can present evidence with respect to them as well, if he or she so chooses.

That being said, I am not aware if Fitz's appointment might have been limited at its outset, since he is doing this under a different hat as a special prosecutor and not under his original job as a US Attorney.

2. Investigations can expand ala Ken Starr however
the special prosecutor can only indict on a crime. Lying to the public is not a crime. Lying to Congress isn't a crime unless you are under oath. So I'm not sure where the WMD investigation would go for Fitzgerald. as far as chimpy is concerned but it may get some of the underlings in the WH

3. I remember reading that Fitz
could take the investigation wherever it leads.
