Tonight I asked a rhetorical question of DUers; "How are you making ends meet?". The general response I got was that as a whole, financially, most are just barely getting by or not getting by at all.
These are the issues as I heard them tonight. The issue is that after working for 20 years, people still cannot afford to send their kid to college. The issue is that with a Master's degree, a guy cannot afford to take his wife out for work. The issue is that even though I have two jobs, I have to keep my house set at 68 degrees even though I live in Alaska, and my house is cold at 68 degrees. The issue is that people who have "done everything right" cannot afford to go to the movies. The issue is that people are using their retirement 401Ks to finance themselves NOW, and think that everything is okay. The issue is that my tooth hurts but I don't have dental insurance and a crown and a root canal cost over $3,000, and I just don't have the money to pay that right now, and even if I did, I would not dare spend it because I am scared of this economy. The issue is that macaroni and cheese is no longer a side dish in American Families dinner, too many nights it is now the main course.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would love to see Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Scooter Libby, and Bush himself thrown in jail, but as fun a diversion as that is, there are bigger matters at hand.
Bush loves the weak dollar, will not dare to force China to adjust its currency, and promotes the outsourcing of jobs. If you are middle to lower middle class, you are in the iron sights, and Bush is behind the trigger.
