Seems Bush will bail out Cal. for Ahnold, but wouldn't for Davis.

Well. Looks like Arnie's gonna solve the problem and drive his popularity even higher. And shmooze with Bush and elevate his stature for 2004. The cabal will be tough to stop.

The governor-elect of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is to ask President Bush for financial assistance to deal with the state's budget crisis. It is the first indication of how the actor's election could have a part to play in next year's presidential election.

"He promised me that he will do everything possible to help California, so I'm looking forward to working with him and asking for a lot - a lot - of favours," said Mr Schwarzenegger at a press conference held in the LA hotel where he had celebrated his victory the previous night.

Referring to the money paid by Californian voters to the US treasury, Mr Schwarzenegger added: "They say that for every dollar we pay in tax, we get only 77 cents back, so there's a lot of money we can get from the federal government, and also a lot of other help."

The Bush administration had always been resistant to pleas for help from the recalled governor, Gray Davis, but would clearly be more sympathetic to requests from a fellow Republican. It opens up the possibility that the Bush administration will give financial concessions to the state in a bid to win it back from the Democrats at the presidential elections.

There was a time when doing this was limited to oh the Partido
Revolucionario Institucional In mexico, when the PAN was elected
for the first time, oh boy they refused them funding.

Yeap when you have one party systems this is common

Would Democrats (and the American people) accept this outrageous partisanship at the cost of the well-being of the people of California?

This really blows my mind.

They won't let Arnie fail because he is a fellow Repube. All kinds of money and deals will flow into the state, legal and shady, so Arnie can help Bushie in 2004.

It is so drearily predictable. Sad thing is, if you're a Dem, they have enough $$ and influence to hang you out to dry and get rid of you. Now that's democracy and freedom, eh?

Of course it's happening. Bush has done absolutely nothing that hasn't paid off or advanced the agenda of his backers and allies.

Use it. Demonstrate how solid his "principles" are, especially to people who think he has any.

have other states with repub governors gotten more federal aid? even if bush wanted to help arnie, how much help can he give when the federal deficit is already causing a revolt in congress?
