NY Daily News: Bush "appreciates" that Karl outed covert agents "for him"
"Karl is fighting for his life," the official added, "but anything he did was done to help George W. Bush. The President knows that and appreciates that."

1. I believe the 2nd paragraph below.

......But the President felt Rove and other members of the White House damage-control team did a clumsy job in their campaign to discredit Plame's husband, Joseph Wilson, the ex-diplomat who criticized Bush's claim that Saddam Hussen tried to buy weapons-grade uranium in Niger.

A second well-placed source said some recently published reports implying Rove had deceived Bush about his involvement in the Wilson counterattack were incorrect and were leaked by White House aides trying to protect the President.

"Bush did not feel misled so much by Karl and others as believing that they handled it in a ham-handed and bush-league way," the source said.

None of these sources offered additional specifics of what Bush and Rove discussed in conversations beginning shortly after the Justice Department informed the White House in September 2003 that a criminal investigation had been launched into the leak of CIA agent Plame's identity to columnist Robert Novak.

unindicted conspirator. Why would this be coming out NOW? is the question. This is, I believe, called "getting out in front of the story."

Since this is tantamount to admitting * is a liar (shock) it's a desperate move saved for the absolute last minute. He's distancing himself from Karl, and also looking for sympathy ("ah 'preshiated his lyalty") at the same time. (Typical narcissism.)

We can only hope.

Edited for typo and punkchuashun.

26. Well, all of these "sources" are doing Bush dirty, and here's why ...
...:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=1860597&mesg_id=1861284

So, any attempt to "shield Bush" by making the kinds of statements being quoted by the NY Daily News (and being echoed throughout the blogosphere) are doing exactly NOT anything helpful for Bush, or for any other person whom they implicate in the "ham-handed and bush-league way" (great pun by the way). They effectively are saying that Bush has been in willful violation (at a minimum) of Executive Order 12958 since the exposure of Valerie Plame began and that those participating have violated their respective SF312s.

No way Bush's legal eagles are going to be allowing anyone inside the tent to be planting these kinds of stories.

Peace.

I'd love to know what moran leaked this damage control article.
It makes the Monkey look like he was in on it from the beginning. He just didn't know what method of the payback he ordered would be used.
And how badly it would end up being bungled.

11. the article says bush 'wacked' Rove 2 years ago.

....WASHINGTON - An angry President Bush rebuked chief political guru Karl Rove two years ago for his role in the Valerie Plame affair, sources told the Daily News.

"He made his displeasure known to Karl," a presidential counselor told The News. "He made his life miserable about this."

Bush has nevertheless remained doggedly loyal to Rove, who friends and even political adversaries acknowledge is the architect of the President's rise from baseball owner to leader of the free world.

As special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald nears a decision, perhaps as early as today, on whether to issue indictments in his two-year probe, Bush has already circled the wagons around Rove, whose departure would be a grievous blow to an already shell-shocked White House staff and a President in deep political trouble.

16. sounds like "conspiracy to committ felony treason"
If the CEO signs the accounts for the auditors, then the president
signs the behaviour of his administration, and bush must go down if
this fat fuck is indicted for treason.

I can't believe they think they can distance themselves from the acts
of an aide, as if Rove is operating in a sphere of his own, but has
life has shown, these republican termites work in groups, gnawing away
at any concept of justice for felony criminal acts.

My god the corruption is breathtaking.

that these sources are just covering the Shrub's ass. The Shrub is trying to distance himself from his Turdblossom.

19. "....help George W. Bush" do what?
"...but anything he did was done to help George W. Bush....."

We haven't forgotten the whole reason Valerie Plame was outed was for pure political retribution. So, I would love for a reporter to call the Republican spin on this line and ask, exactly what was Rove helping Bush to do by outing Valerie Plame. The only possible answer is, Rove was trying to keep Bush's lies intact in the case for taking this country into war.

33. Would that be true if Brewster Jennings had been
looking into planted or possibly planted WMDs?

We don't know, and probably won't ever, but my feeling is, someone found something over there that they were NOT supposed to uncover. The smear against Wilson was an attempt at distraction from the outing of Plame.

Welol, I hope I'm wrong on that. Really. It would indicate a level of corruption that is sim.... oh, wait.

Never mind.
