A possibility for live Malloy on XM
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 11:45 AM by drbtg1
from TV Week:

XM Satellite Radio, which recently passed the 5 million subscriber mark, announced Tuesday it has made a deal to launch a new channel, which will be known as the Fox News Talk Channel, nationally in January 2006.

The new 24-hour channel will present the existing radio shows starring Fox News's Bill O'Reilly, Tony Snow, Alan Colmes and others, including John Gibson, whose radio show is expected to roll out by year-end. The new channel also will time-shift key Fox News Channel programs, including the prime-time cable lineup.

(snip)

The new deal with XM, which was announced in time to maximize the holiday buying season, is non-exclusive and represents the first satellite exposure for Mr. O'Reilly's radio show.

Sirius Satellite Radio also carries the Fox News Channel audio channel under a deal that expires at the end of the year unless it is renewed. No deal is in place for Sirius to pick up Fox News Talk.

So, If XM is giving more time to the right wing with some token time for Colmes, then maybe Mr. Malloy might finally air at its proper time.

Too bad it appears it'll take a deal for Fox in order to for XM to do the right thing for AAR. It's also unfortunate that XM rolled over for Fox with regard to not being exclusive but pressured AAR to exclusivity.

1. Bitter sweet
I Love the news that Mike Malloy is going to be on at his normal time on XM but it sucks that there is going to be a Fox/Bush Propaganda radio channel.

2. Not the same thing...

Little reality check on that point. FAUX is everywhere and has been around long enough that trying to get exclusivity for FAUX would have been a pointless battle. XM has to carry FAUX to stay competative in the market... AAR on the other hand is the up and coming (and growing stronger) and XM saw the value of grabbing the exclusivity WHILE THEY COULD and they would both get stronger because of it....

Apples & Onions...

3. They of course mean
Exclusivity as it pertains to satellite radio. Not normal radio.

5. You might have a point, IF...
the MLB was non-exclusive, the NFL was non-exclusive, etc, etc. They are "everywhere" too. Apples and Apples.

It appears Faux's business model includes the goal of expanding the audience to as many points as possible, instead of allowing its product to be an exclusive selling point for another business.

6. Also, about what XM values....

This statement struck me as odd.

XM saw the value of grabbing the exclusivity WHILE THEY COULD and they would both get stronger because of it

Now, in this day and age, if XM truly valued AAR exclusivity, shouldn't they feature that HERE:

http://www.xmradio.com/learn/programming.jsp

I mean, if you're going to tout exclusivity with MSNBC and Starbucks music along with about a dozen other exclusives, wouldn't a word about AAR exclusivity, after all this time, be appropriate?

Or, perhaps you'd at least want say something HERE:

http://www.xmradio.com/programming/channel_page.jsp?ch=167

Instead, we get a demeaning comment about "Get your daily marching orders".

Sorry, but if a company can't, or won't, feature this alledged selling point on one of their most prominent and detailed advertisement vehicles, then that doesn't show they value the property in question. Why isn't Danny Goldberg up in arms about this?

7. If you want to listen to AAR on the home speakers...

which can stream WMA and has optical and coax digital connections as well as regular analog RCA's
