All Floridians in the line of Wilma - try and get reservations in the

North West part of the state. I just made reservations in Tallahassee. I noticed on Hotels.com that many hotels are already sold out.

My cousin told me about making reservations last year and it is a good idea. So I'm filling anyone who needs to know in.

1. Word of warning about hotels.com...

Call the hotel to confirm reservations! Our reservations were made through hotel.com; after fourteen hours of traveling to the destination, we were told that hotel.com had overbooked. They gave us a room for the night but said we'd have to leave the next morning. Two other evacuated families we had spoken to at the hotel were told the same thing.

2. I found the hotel on the site and got their phone # from 411.com

I've had problems with those sites also.

Plus I meant to add that if you find out that the hurricane takes a turn in another direction make sure you cancel your reservation so someone else can have it.

the area its right next to an outlet mall, she says she's sitting tight right now....she's just sick of these damn hurricanes

5. I know people who evacuate to Disney World

They figure it's solidly constructed, in the middle of the state away from the shores, well supplied, and never loses power because Disney has private underground utilities. And, while they're there, they have a bit of a vacation. It's worked for them so far, although it's got to be running into some money--I think two storms threatened Tampa last year.
