1. The USAF provides C-130 weather planes
NOAA has a smaller fleet of smaller Jetstream-sized jets for weather work.

6. my brother did this
with usaf. it kept him out of nam. mostly, anyway. they did seed the clouds over the ho chi min trail. and they lost a hatch, once. he nearly got sucked out. (don't know what kind of plane.)

7. The Air Force's Hurricane Hunters operate 10 aircraft. They do the
real hurricane tracking and are the ones you see interviewed on TV all of the time. Ironicly, they are based at Keesler AFB here in Biloxi.
