Walter Cronkite and Andy Rooney talk about "GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK"
Fascinating article —

CBS News legends Walter Cronkite and Andy Rooney rave about Good Night, and Good Luck, but they worry that George Clooney's film could baffle younger viewers.

"Because of the complexity of the story line, and the entire generation that's grown up since those events, some of us felt there should have been a little introduction to what it was all about to set the scene," says Cronkite, 88, former anchor of the CBS Evening News.

(snipped)

"It's a fairly sophisticated danger that wasn't laid out too clearly in the movie to begin with," says Rooney, 86, of 60 Minutes. "You have to catch on as it goes along."

Yet Rooney adds that he's encouraged that moviegoers want to know the story. "I'm not highly hopeful about the intelligence of the American people," Rooney says. "If they like this, they're not as dumb as I think they are."

1. Maybe younger viewers should study history prior to seeing the film.
Just my opinion. Clooney shouldn't dumb down his film just because the younger generation knows nothing about recent American history.

3. People pretty much dumbed down as it is so
maybe this will get them to do a little investigating on their own. It's so easy now with the internet.

2. One of the things George Clooney learned while working on ER was that
you should NEVER underestimate the audience's intelligence. It sounds like he continued along those lines with this movie.

I can't wait to see it once it opens in my area.

4. I think Walter and Andy should leave the movie making to George
Clooney and stop underestimating the intelligence of younger viewers.

5. Well, I saw it and loved it!
I will admit to you that I said to my husband when we left that I didn't feel as if I had enough prior knowledge to really understand the scope of what a huge thing these few people did. The movie definitely gets that point across but I did feel as if I missed some of what the older audience got out of it. They applauded and laughed at times and it seemed more emotional to them. I will also say that most of the audience was older, my husband and I, 41 and 43, were the youngest ones in the theater. Sounds kind of crazy but it was a bit of a bonding experience with them, they seemed to appreciate that we were there. I would have loved to have seen it with my own father.

I hope everyone goes and sees it. I wouldn't count on it coming to a theater near you, it seems to be very limited in where it is playing. We drove an hour to see it.

It was an awesome movie and I plan on doing some reading and seeing it again on DVD. I am sure that I will end up owning this one.
