2. He is insulting to the process.

That shows how stupid he is.

He has no respect for the justice system or for anything else except money and power.

3. Those numbers are passe...
All of that is done with computers now. No need to hold up a sign with numbers on it. There is a profile shot somewhere, more than likely, but it might not have been released with the arrest report -- the cops only need to release a photo ID, not all.

11. OK, that makes sense, can't believe I didn't think/know that.
Well, I'll still like to know what the number is...You never know, it could be a nice sign of things to come.

6. I'm certainly looking forward to the mugshot...
...probably The Smoking Gun (http://www.thesmokinggun.com) will scoop everyone, as usual.

Until then...we're all ready for your "close-up", Mr. DeLay....

14. Someone needs to explain to this fool that this is NOT a photo-op.
He looks like he's enjoying himself. Is he just nuts or does he know something we don't know? I get uneasy when someone so slimy appears to be so happy. It can't be a good thing.

16. He did that on purpose so it won't be used against him.
It looks just like another cheezy photo soliciting money from his fans.

7. Maybe whoever released it cropped out the numbers?
Maybe the source didn't release the profile? Or the media decided against publishing it?

Consider the simple possible reasons, for heaven's sake. What are lawyers going to tell you?

8. Answer from the Man.
As someone stated above we use computers now. The person stands in front of a digital camera which feeds directly into a computer. A frontal shot, left profile and right profile picture is taken.

We only use a poloroid (sp?) if the digital is down and only then if the suspect is an axe murder or something of that nature.

15. OK, but I want the whole rap sheet.
with his fingerprints, charges, and the photo.
That's the picture to have and use.
His lawyer held it up on CNN.

18. A rap sheet is not what you want. You want his booking sheet.
Afraid it is not public record.

A rap sheet is a list of criminal history. He does not have one of those just yet.

19. Some things never change
When I worked as a civilian in a PD years ago, I helped dispel the movie/TV myths about such things. Even then my department didn't have the person hold up a card -- the tech had an automatic counter positioned in the foreground of the shot. This was particularly helpful with the inebriated persons who could barely hold themselves up, never mind a silly card.

One movie reference was accurate: I did see some rap sheets that were as long as my arm. ;-)

9. in the other post, they said that the county he surrendered in doesn't
do mug shots with numbers. They planned it that way.

use digital systems. If a Department doesn't them they have serious issues because the FBI gives grants for the equipment which is nothing more the a computer and camera.

17. where are the height chart and the profile shot?
Much as I enjoy the silly little shit-eating grin that Mr. Delay has inovatively chosen instead of the more traditional slack-jawed scowl, I feel that some nod to traditionalism -- however brief -- was very much in order: there are certain useful conventions that simply must be followed for the sake of the genre.
