CNN's Faith & Values Correspondent - WTF?
I did not realize this happened way back in September. The Daily Show, just last night was the first I'd heard of it. Now watch the rest of the MSM copycats follow suit. Having Fawell, Dobson, Graham, as the only "regular" guests representing "religion in America" isn't enough.

Thank God, for This Week In God.

Gallagher Hired On as Faith and Values Correspondent
Source: CNN Press Release Delia Gallagher, a long-time Vatican analyst for CNN and a leading journalist on religious issues, will join CNN full time as its faith and values correspondent, it was announced today by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S.

“I’m excited about the challenge to expand my reporting of religion across a multitude of faiths,” Gallagher said. “We recognize how influential American’s beliefs and values can be in business and politics and that journalists often ignore that fact. I hope my reports help fill the void.”

Drawing from her extensive experience covering the Vatican and religions around the world, Gallagher will provide reports and analysis for the network on a wide range of topics involving faith, religion and values in the lives of Americans. Gallagher, who will be based in New York City, started Tuesday, Sept. 6, providing reports of a Catholic diocese in Louisiana helping schoolchildren displaced after Hurricane Katrina.

“Delia’s contributions about religion and religious leaders, particularly during the death and funeral of Pope John Paul II, stood out for their intelligence, sensitivity and depth,” Klein said. “Her hire as a full-time correspondent represents a major commitment by CNN to covering the religious revival in the United States, where tens of millions of people cite faith as a central part of their lives.”

As the faith and values correspondent, Gallagher will examine significant news stories through a religious perspective, including the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for John Roberts.

3. ABC has turned into the Fundie Apologist Network
Last night on World News Tonight they had a very slanted report on that Massachusetts fundie who was suing a school district because his son came home with a book that depicted gay families along with other kinds of families (including animals!).

And some other show, I forget which cause I just saw the promo for it (Good Morning America?) had a story on chief moneychanger Joel Olsteen (sp?), one of those "God wants you to be rich" preachers. The promo was framed in such a way that it was giving him credibility instead of questioning it ("how you can apply these principles to YOUR life!").

21. Joel Osteen Has NEVER Said "God Wants You To Be Rich". EVER
he is not my cup of tea but he is the real deal. Non-partisan and definately not the judgmental and hateful type like Robertson.

Saying God or the Universe wants you to prosper (what he says) is a very different thing then God wants you to be rich.

If you took the time to listen to him, you'd know that.

6. It pisses me off that "faith" and "values" are considered to be a pair
I'm an atheist and those who know me consider me to be ethical and of strong moral fiber and I certainly have a strong set of values.

This kind of crap shows exactly why the separatoin of church and state is such an important issue. I can't tell you how much it pisses me off when DU'er sget angry over things like Mr. Newdow's campaign to get "under god" removed from schools.

12. Very Good Point!
I too am often irked by the pairing of "faith and values" as if these are one in the same.

17. and why
why do they think someone with a degree in religion is more qualified to report on faith and values than the average reporter.

Faith and value does not equal religion

those dumbass questions like "are these hurricanes the sign of the end times?" were no coincidence...

13. John Stewart mentioned this the other night.
Actually it sounds like she is very well qualified on the subject of religion, I will be interested to hear her reporting. I agree that the job title is atrocious, she may not have had control of that.
