a thirteenth stepping bastard when he comes back out! I usually have some empathy with my fellows, but this one has shown nothing to redeem him. OK, I know I have no business taking his inventory. Perhaps the rest of us here who have some expeience with recovery should design a special aftercare group just for him? Any takers? We could call it The Fairness Doctrine Group.

I'm willing to give everyone another chance. At this point, much to the chagrine of the Freepers who want to see us mess ourselves in glee over Rush's fate, truly want to see him recover - truly recover. His hate has to stem from something deep and psychological. He is numbing himself to the world, so obviusly he can't empathize with the pain his hate causes. Maybe that will change. That is my prayer for Rush.

Don't hold your breathe for this creature.

Compassion from those who he's vilified and hated may give him a new perspective. In rehab he may also acknowledge that how he uses his power is destructive and wrong.

Like him or not, he is the most sucessful broadcaster. Ever.

Like Darth Vader, he will be back and probably be more powerful than ever. I think his sucess made him feel invincable.

Getting knocked down a few will actually make him stronger.

I have known some pretty hateful, arrogant types that changed their playmates, playgrounds and playthings 'successfuly' (could be me?). I have admittedly prayed for people like Rush many times, just to be able to put them from my thoughts and hand them over to a power greater than myself. It is a guarantee that if he really 'gets it', as he needs to do, he will never be the same as he has been in the past. I am not sure if I can envision Limbaugh hanging on to the 'pink cloud' for all he's worth; it is a mind boggling image. I agree whole heartedly with you on the issue of his background. There must be something there that helped create the 'hole in the heart' that required him to self-medicate. If he really works his program, then he will deal with his past hatred, and it will not be easy for him. I used to pray for my Dad in much the same way (still do), for him to experience even one minute of the serenity of sobriety, and through that to show him that there is a life that does not revolve around fear, self-loathing, and hatred. He still lives, so it is never too late.

And unsuccessful back surgery.

I guess if that were the case there wouldn't be much left of him.

30 day rehabs are a joke. A judge would demand at least 90 days and would probably want six months of AA or NA attendance slips.

Rehab is supposed to be the entry into a life of honesty. This, and his use of "program speak" to bolster his "liberals can't face the truth" hate speak today, make for an ominous start.

I went to the pain clinic at the University Of Chicago Hospital and they put me on Methadone for pain. I didn't know what it was and when I found out that it was a form of Heroine I died of embarrassment and I told the Doctor to change my meds.

I am so happy that the "Junkie" was caught. He doesn't think of himself as being a junkie he thinks that the pills are PRESCRIPTION Medicine not drugs.

It is a sorry statement that everyone doesn't get treatment.

I have a friend who is in prison because of his addiction to narcotics. Because he couldn't get treatment when he needed it and couldn't get enough prescription meds to cover his withdrawal symptoms he turned to robbery.

I'm not excusing what he did, in fact I feel he has some serious character flaws (and everyone who knows him agrees) but when he's not on dope he's quite OK. Honest, a devoted father, a talented musician. But there is no free treatment available, and he never had any insurance that would cover proper detox and recovery.

As a recovering alcoholic/addict I have compassion for his disease. If he gets into a 12 step program, and works on true recovery, it will change his whole life. He won't be able to be the same person he is right now. It is impossible not to change for the better, in recovery.

Addiction is a terrible disease, and a terrible death. I don't wish that on Rush, as evil as he is. I hate to see us spewing freeperlike comments here, about a sick person. I know very well that he would fail to show us the same compassion - but aren't we supposed to be the good guys?

It is no accident that he mentioned us twice this week. He did get something from us. It is hard to say what, but maybe he saw himself in all the posts here about addiction.

Remember why many turn to drugs. He hates what he does and who he pretends to be, it is literally killing him to spew hate every day all day. Who knows if he will learn that the reason he numbs himself because he knows he is complicit in the decline of America, but maybe he will. True recovery will mean that he must confront his demons and his lies are his demons.

Remember there have been a few with a conscience who eventually came clean. Atwater and Brock.
