Fitzgerald gossip straight from my inbox
Submitted by davidswanson on Thu, 2005-10-20 16:10. Media

By Jan Frel

I just got this e-mail from a Democratic House member's staffer with tons of good dirt on the Plame investigation. I'm reprinting it whole cloth to share all, and show that while these Hill staffers are well-informed, they sure could use some capitalization classes.

Among the things I hadn't seen before:

-Fred Flights, an assistant to John Bolton, is a named name who could be indicted.

-Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham have been suggested as replacements for Dick Cheney.

-Colin Powell told John McCain he showed the infamous memo with Plame's identity on it two just two people; Dick Cheney and George Bush.

-Fitzgerald is looking at the precedent set from the indictment of Tricky Dick's veep Spiro Agnew to pursue against Cheney.

That's red meat folks.

party instead of tending to business...like Katrina.

32. Ari saw it as Powell reportedly tesified. Cheney not on board AF1 or on
trip to Africa during which Powell had the memo. Previous published reports (not anonymous emails) indicated that the memo had been passed around the biggies on board AF 1 that day. Only the memo didn't mention "Plame" and did not address her covert status.

And the memo originally was compiled in June by State. Not exactly hot news since it was a compilation of previous material, events. In March reportedly Wilson was told that WHIG's decided to do a "work up" on Wilson in March. By June apparently Libby that we know of was already chatting up Miller and spreading the news about Wilson's wife, weeks before Wilson's Op Ed, Bush's trip to Africa and Powell's having the memo on AF1.

6. This gossip, which had more to it, has been questioned and...
debunked.

The original text claimed that Powell only showed Bush and Cheney the state Department Memo on the flight to Africa. cheney was never on that flight.

I'm also suspicious about claims of Powell's loose lips. He still seems to be a company man.

11. who do you think put his long-term aid up to blasting Cheney
for "co opting" foreign policy?

He had to have Colin's blessings.

They are both high ranked military men.

14. But that article said there was a falling out between Wilkerson & Powell
because of Wilkerson's decision to speak out.

I'm pretty sure that was in the same article. Until then, I was willing to give Powell more credit.

22. I've seen something similar to this too........
.....and the message I read, said that Powell had shown it to Bush and Cheney, it did not necessarily state that they were on the same flight.

And actually, I do believe that memo is a key piece of evidence. There was an article about it in the NY Times a few months ago.

So while some of this may just be rumor, I do believe there is a lot of truth to the memo being a crucial bit of info.

Good to know he's still kickin', to get the shit kicked out of him.

Fred Flights... no surprise there.

McCain and Graham... No surprise there. But McCain won't be the guy. Gov. Napolitano would appoint a Dem to replace him.

on edit:

Given all the factual problems with this so-called e-mail from a staffer, I've gotta discount the whole damned thing. Hate to bust everybody's balloon, but this is moonshine.

This is rubbish. e-mail claims that Cheney was on flight with Bush and Powell. On top of the fact that this is known to be untrue, it's very stupid. It cannot happen. Why? Because pres and veep *NEVER* travel together. The Secret Service would have an absolute fit. The USA does not put itself in jeopardy like this. When pres travels, and is in putative jeopardy, veep stays safe, and vice-versa.

Anyone who's read up on previously published reports regarding the State Dept memo on AF1 trip to Africa should know this email is disinformation.
