Maybe they didn't know anything about Fitzgerald. From what I've read someone who worked for Ashcroft nominated Fitzgerald (the guy is Fitzgerald's friend) and he was appointed.
They don't decide that really. I guess the DOJ does, but they probably were caught up in their own ego.But besides, they can fire him when they want, too if he starts pulling out indictments. That's when you party...
He is respected by both Democrats and Repukes. But I really think the Repukes believe he is a moderate republican..they are badly mistaken; and Mr. Fitzgerald makes it a point to declare he is apolitical.
5. he was put in by an underling of Ashcroft who ....
..... had to step aside because of conflict of interest. Also "they" didn't expect members of the White House to flip, members of the CIA to actively work against bush after the outing, and yes "they" were drunk w/ power.
...with the benefit of hindsight. May also be that Ashcroft was lead to believe the WH was clean and therefore the investigation would not lead back to them.
10. What worries me is the thought that Bushco would not sit back
and allow one man to bring them down. The fact that he is still on the job leads me to believe that they don't fear him. We are talking about one of the most ruthless ruling cabals in human history. They have repeatedly shown a willingness to do ANYTHING to get and keep power.
