Josh Marshall has really great political instincts. He is great at finding the common denominator, in my opinion...

This certainly seems like an attempt to pin this whole thing on Libby.

Leaks like that won't affect Fitzgerald; they're not intended to. They're aimed at shaping perceptions of indictments if they come down. If Libby and Rove are indicted, then, yes Rove got caught up in it. And it shouldn't have happened. But the whole unfortunate mess was spawned by the bitter Libby-Wilson antagonsim. It wasn't something that involved the whole White House team, not something characteristic of how it functions.

That would be the argument.

And it's one everyone should have their eyes out for, since the key players in the White House appear to have decided that Libby is already a fatality in this battle.

1. Libby looks to be the fall guy, if he doesn't stop it, Cheney is next
Libby is going down. The Rovers are already planting the seeds that Rove was not the moving force.

3. What does this last paragraph mean?
"Before leaving you, one other point to consider. Note Bartlett's alleged instructions to back off from Wilson in April 2004. Keep that in mind when considering possible coordination between the White House and the majority staff on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence while it was finishing up the Iraq WMD report in the summer of 2004. We'll return to that subject later."

5. Read the entire post by Josh Marshall...
Dan Bartlett, in April of 04, advised Libby and others to back off because it was not furthering their cause, so to speak, and Bartlett works for whom? The White House! So it's hard to argue the White House was not involved when they were giving people directions to back off..

4. That makes sense
I doubt they would really think they could derail this investigation with a few leaks; but changing perception of it, that could happen.

6. Don't you find it interesting that RNC is *still* attacking Wilson --
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 09:58 AM by emulatorloo
Chris Matthews read from a hot off the fax machine RNC "poop sheet" (as Matthews called it) last night -- attacks on Wilson's character.

So if they are trying to pin it all on Libby (which makes sense per Marshall's argument), why is the RNC still attacking Wilson? Doesn't seem to smart does it. . .

I will go look for matthews video and add it here in a minute

ON EDIT: VIDEO- RNC gives Chris Matthews Talking Points to trash Wilson
