Has anyone read the report about Syria killing Lebanese PM?

It is fascinating stuff. I wonder what would happen here if a similar report was created about the many crimes of Bush.

But please read at least the executive summary. Something should be done about Syria.

2. bush tried to assassinate sadaam, bush has no right to be critical
of syria unless he demands a UN investigation of himself also.

4. I don't see any hard proof in the report that Syria was behind it.
Lots of assumptions. Their argument is that it is difficult to believe this could have been done without the knowledge of Lebanese and Syrian intel. But there is no hard proof yet of their involvement.

So I found your comment that "something should be done about Syria" a bit strange. What are you suggesting should be done?

From the Executive Summary:

8. Building on the findings of the Commission and Lebanese investigations to date and on the basis of the material and documentary evidence collected, and the leads pursued until now, there is converging evidence pointing at both Lebanese and Syrian involvement in this terrorist act. It is a well known fact that Syrian Military Intelligence had a pervasive presence in Lebanon at the least until the withdrawal of the Syrian forces pursuant to resolution 1559. The former senior security officials of Lebanon were their appointees. Given the infiltration of Lebanese institutions and society by the Syrian and Lebanese intelligence services working in tandem, it would be difficult to envisage a scenario whereby such a complex assassination plot could have been carried out without their knowledge.

Even if the assumptions are correct that top Syrian AND LEBANESE security officials were involved, wouldn't that be a criminal matter between Syria and Lebanon?

I'm pretty sure.

:eyes:

Edit; the UN report doesn't even say Syria did it; it says it's hard to believe that Syrian AND LEBANESE officials working IN TANDEM did not KNOW.

BUSH turning this into "Syria done it" is to be expected. He's a big fucking liar.

M$M to do likewise, also expected.

9. UN report - UN sanctions
It is obviously bad news if one country feels free to kill the head of another state. We know that all too well in this country.

If international law means anything, the international community must come together and make sure that Syria does not do this again.

Assad had an intervfiew with that Anompour (sp?) woman from CNN last week where he said if anyone from his gov't had anything to do with the assassination it was treason against Syria. Punishment in Syria for treason is death.

The head of Syrian security also committed "suicide" last week. Probably with multiple gunshots. My amatuer analysis - Assad knew the report was damning and killed the one guy (head of security) that could tie him to the assassination.

The US should not invade. We have had enough. Syria is already on the US shit list. If we can get real sanctions against Syria the people might rise up against the small minority tribe that runs that joint.
